Volunteer Lawyers Project of CNY, Inc. Providing access to justice through engaging the legal community in volunteer service. Our mission is to provide equal access to justice to those in need.

Our services are provided by volunteer attorneys with the help of law students and are supervised by a small staff.

Last night, we celebrated an incredible achievement as Sara McDowell, Deputy Executive Director for Immigration Programs at the Volunteer Lawyers Project of CNY, received a 2026 Denison Ray Civil Legal Services Attorney Award from the New York State Bar Association.

Through innovative partnerships, community education, and rapid responses to emerging needs, Sara’s leadership has strengthened services for immigrant and refugee communities throughout Central New York. Her compassion, exceptional legal advocacy, and unwavering dedication help vulnerable clients navigate complex immigration challenges with dignity and respect.
