It’s easy to stay focused on what’s right in front of us. But every so often, it’s important to pause and recognize what our team and community make possible.

This August, Vera House:

💜 Answered 315+ calls to our 24-Hour support line
💜 Welcomed 11 new families into safe shelter
💜 Provided 212 licensed counseling sessions
💜 Responded to 23 hospital call outs through our SANE team
💜 Reached 2,100+ students and community members through education
💜 Welcomed 20 new participants into accountability work

Today, we’re putting the spotlight on two volunteers who have given so much of their time and energy to Vera House this year, Jeff and Jerry.

Their work has contributed to countless projects, big and small. They have assembled furniture, painted rooms, landscaped, handled repairs, and helped with ongoing maintenance at our safe dwellings and office. They also lent their time and talents to our community room sponsored by Community Bank, N.A., helping create a welcoming place for the people we serve.

When survivors enter a space that feels cared for, it can help restore a sense of dignity and confidence. Sometimes, just feeling safe and comfortable in your surroundings can make a different future feel possible.

Jeff and Jerry, thank you for every hour you’ve given and every project you’ve taken on. Your work can be seen and felt throughout Vera House, and we are so grateful for you both.

A little change of plans, but we’re still looking forward to a night at the ballpark together!

We Care Wednesday, presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 16, when the Syracuse Mets take on the Rochester Red Wings at 6:35 PM.

A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit Vera House, helping us continue to provide support, advocacy, and education as we work toward a community free of domestic and sexual violence.

So update your calendars, grab your tickets if you haven’t already, and we’ll see you there! ⚾💜

Today, we’re putting the spotlight on our advocates and the work they do every day.

This team answers crisis calls at all hours of the day and night. They sit with survivors during forensic exams. They walk beside them into courtrooms, DSS offices, and housing appointments. They help families make safety plans, find shelter, navigate difficult systems, and figure out what comes next. This work takes skill, patience, and so much care.

To every advocate on our team, thank you for showing up for survivors every single day. We are so appreciative of you. 💜

Yesterday, more than 200 Community Financial System, Inc. employees came together for their 3rd Annual Wellbeing Day at Community Bank, and we were so grateful to be part of the day’s giving initiative.

Employees packed bags with full sized toiletries and hygiene essentials for survivors we serve. Tucked inside were handwritten notes of encouragement, too. Those essentials matter, and so do the words that remind someone there are people in their community who care about them and are cheering them on. 💜

Thank you to CFSI, Community Bank, N.A. , OneGroup Insurance, BPAS University, and Nottingham Financial Group for showing up for our community and for the people we serve.

We’re so grateful for the energy you put into giving back. It means more than you know!
