Syracuse Habitat for Humanity

Syracuse Habitat for Humanity We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. At Syracuse Habitat, we are building more than just houses: we are building community.

Owning a home has proven to be one of the most effective ways to become independent and move out of poverty. We do not give our houses away. We instead lend a hand-up in that our partner families pay a zero-interest equivalent mortgage that immediately builds equity on the first payment. By selling homes to people who were formally renters, the community benefits as well by the increase in tax bas

e that contributes to better schools and infrastructure. Owning a house is significant for not only the home-owner, but also has a lasting generational impact. After moving into a safe and decent home, children do better in school, their health improves, and they have a better chance of finishing high school and going on to seek higher education. Children of home-owners are much more likely to become homeowners themselves as well. Building houses is just the start of what we do. Through home-ownership, families are empowered to build strength, stability, and self-reliance in their own house, and that is where the real change happens.

🏡✨

These homes may look simple, but they represent something powerful. They are the 2nd and 3rd houses ever built by Syracuse Habitat for Humanity in Syracuse.

One photo even captures both homes standing side by side, marking the early days of a mission that would go on to impact countless families.

From these humble beginnings grew decades of partnership, volunteerism, and the belief that everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. ✨

🔨🏛️ Syracuse Habitat for Humanity is proud to join Habitat for Humanity of New York State for 2026!

On May 26, Habitat affiliates from across New York will gather at the State Capitol to frame a real Habitat home right on Capitol grounds — bringing communities, volunteers, and lawmakers together to highlight the importance of safe, affordable housing.

This day is about more than building walls. It’s about building opportunity, stability, and stronger communities across New York State. 💙💚
We hope our local representatives will join us, pick up a hammer, and experience the Habitat mission firsthand.

To the summer of 1996🏡✨!

These photos capture a special moment in our history during the community-wide 4th of July parade in Manlius, where Fayetteville-Manlius churches came together to kick off a fundraiser to build a Habitat home. Thanks to the incredible support and spirit of the community, that home was completed in 1997.

Nearly three decades later, we’re still inspired by the volunteers, supporters, and neighbors who helped lay the foundation for affordable homeownership in our community. ❤️🔨
