It's time to repost and share again for folks who may be new to our page or need a little extra help.

🥰 Won't you please share this multi-county list?
If you know of any other pet food pantries in Onondaga or surrounding counties, please let us know so that we can add them to the list.
🥰 Each pantry has its own guidelines. It's best to check their website or page - or give them a call for open times and guidelines. Some pet food pantries require proof of income or need.
🥰 The food offered is usually a supplement to what the pet owner provides. It is not intended to be the pet's only source of food.
🥰 Not all pantries have a supply of pet food all of the time. That's another reason why it's a good idea to check ahead.
🥰 Also, please donate pet food or supplies to a nearby food pantry if you can! In some cases, a large bag of food is broken into smaller baggies so that more pets can be served. Your donation would be so deeply appreciated. 💞

🐾🧡 October is Pit Bull Awareness Month! 🧡🐾

This month, we’re celebrating the wonderful dogs often labeled simply as “pit bulls” and reminding our community that every dog deserves to be seen as an individual. ❤️

Pit bull–type dogs can be goofy, affectionate, playful, loyal, energetic, and incredibly loving companions. Like every dog, they have their own personalities, needs, and histories.
At our shelter, we believe in getting to know the dog in front of us — not judging them by a label or appearance. 🐶

Let’s help replace stereotypes with understanding, fear with education, and assumptions with compassion.

🐾 Adopt responsibly. Train positively. Advocate for every dog. And always judge the individual, not the label.
Happy Pit Bull Awareness Month! 💙🐕

Today we remember all the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We honor those who rushed in to respond to the call including law enforcement, firefighters, clergy, civilians, and the our canine friends. We recognize this day can be heavy for many of us. Carrying the legacy of our lost brothers and sisters is something we will have forever. ❤️🇺🇸

We invite you to watch this video of some of the brave dogs who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the tragedy. So many abled bodies answered the call to help, including dozens of dogs.

Take today to do something kind for our fellow humans in remembrance of the lives lost and the heroes that answered the call 25 years ago.

09/10/2026

When we share the story of an animal who has suffered cruelty, one of the first questions we see is:
“What happened to the person who did this?”
It’s an important question — but the answer exposes gaps that still exist in protecting animals.
Animal cruelty is a crime in New York, and certain forms of aggravated cruelty can result in felony charges. But having laws on the books does not guarantee that every act of cruelty will result in an arrest, prosecution, conviction, or significant sentence.
Animal cruelty cases can depend on evidence showing who harmed the animal, what happened, whether the conduct meets the legal definition of cruelty, and whether prosecutors can prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. When evidence is limited, witnesses are unavailable, or responsibility cannot be established, accountability becomes much harder.
And even when someone is convicted, another question remains: What prevents them from harming an animal again?
Animal welfare laws have come a long way, but there are still gaps in enforcement, resources, reporting, prosecution, sentencing, and protections designed to prevent repeat abuse.
That is why animal advocacy cannot end with rescuing the animal in front of us. We also have to advocate for systems that take animal cruelty seriously, give law enforcement and prosecutors the tools to intervene, and prioritize prevention before another animal becomes a victim.
Animal cruelty is not just an animal welfare issue. It is a community issue.
If you witness or suspect animal cruelty, report it to the appropriate local authorities. Documentation can matter — but never put yourself or an animal in danger to obtain it.
We will continue advocating for the animals who cannot advocate for themselves.

Please donate & share❤️
A little under a year ago HumaneCNY took in a dog who was stabbed, Chase. And now they are stepping up for Amelia.

Continue to support your local shelters and rescues, educate yourself on violence against animals, and learn how to recognize and report it.
Thank you, HumaneCNY, and to the members of our community who continue to speak up, step in, and help protect animals in need. 🧡

‼️Mark your calendars for the upcoming rabies clinic in Syracuse‼️

Aaaand that's a wrap! 😍 There was a great turnout. If you missed today's clinic, stay tuned for our posts about the September 24th clinic.

📣 🗣️ It's FREE and it saves pets' lives!

The next Onondaga County Health Department rabies clinic is:
* Thursday, August 20, 5 - 7 p.m.
* Bob Cecile Community Center
* 174 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse

😁 Appointments are always appreciated and so are donations. But walk-ins are welcome and the vaccination is free.
😁 Make your online appointment here:
https://ochdrabiesclinic.as.me/schedule/d0ede0db/appointment/31137429

☎️ Have questions? Call 315-435-3165

* Bring proof of your cat or dog's previous rabies vaccination to receive a certificate good for three years.
* It's your pet's first rabies vaccination? YAY! for bringing your fur baby. You'll receive a certificate requiring a booster vaccination in one year. After that 1-year booster, vaccinations are required every three years.
* Ferrets must be vaccinated annually.

🙏 Please have your pet securely leashed/harnessed or in a secure carrier.

Don't miss this chance to protect your precious furbaby from deadly but preventable rabies. (Plus, it's New York State law!)

So far this year in Onondaga County, two bats and one raccoon have tested positive for rabies. There have been no reported human cases of rabies during this time period.

Fixing to Help assists with the cost of the surgery appointment for pets of Onondaga County residents with verified low incomes.

🐾 THANK YOU, SYRACUSE! 🐾

We are feeling incredibly grateful after yesterday’s Keep Us Together Pop-Up Pet Food Pantry! ❤️

We met so many wonderful pet owners and, of course, their amazing pets. 🐶🐱 It was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to help keep pets healthy, happy, and right where they belong: with the people who love them.

We’re honored to work alongside incredible community partners like Fixing to Help, Syracuse Police Department Dog Control, and Brown Memorial United Methodist Church to connect local families with pet food, supplies, and information about affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations.

And a huge thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, shared our posts, or helped spread the word. Every bag of food and every connection made helps a family care for a pet they love.

This is what keeping pets and people together looks like. ❤️🐾

Thank you, Syracuse, for showing up for your neighbors and their pets!
