Today is the heavenly birthday of honorary Public Safety Officer Myles Timothy O’Connell, who would have turned 15. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made will forever be a part of us.

Myles left a mark on our hearts that time will never erase. He dreamed of becoming an officer, inspired by his uncle and driven by a heart full of courage. Even though childhood cancer shortened his journey, it could never dim his spirit or the light he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.

Happy heavenly birthday, partner.

“Multi-Agency Effort Leads to Arrest of Armed Felony Assault Suspect Using FLOCK Camera Alert”

On 2/16/26, patrol officers responded to a felony assault in the 100 block of South Bernardo Avenue. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival after assaulting one victim and pointing a firearm at a second individual.

On 2/17/26, officers received an alert from the FLOCK Safety Camera System indicating the suspect vehicle was detected in downtown Los Gatos. With the assistance of the Los Gatos Police Department and the Santa Clara County Special Enforcement Team, officers located and safely arrested the violent suspect nearby. Sunnyvale officers subsequently served a search warrant and recovered a loaded firearm equipped with an extended magazine, along with additional loaded magazines. The suspect was booked on multiple felony charges.

This case underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration and demonstrates the effectiveness of the FLOCK safety camera system, which officers rely on daily to locate and apprehend violent offenders in the ongoing effort to keep Sunnyvale safe for the community.

Armed Suicidal Subject Safely Taken Into Custody After Gas Station Incident

On 2/9/2026 at approximately 2:18 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of N. Fair Oaks Avenue regarding a report of a male subject shouting at pedestrians and demanding money while armed with a 12-inch knife.

Upon officers’ arrival, the subject fled into a gas station and continued to brandish the knife and repeatedly stated that he wanted to die and wanted officers to kill him.

The subject then ran into a rear office area of the gas station, where he stabbed himself in the neck area with the knife. He later emerged with the knife lodged in his neck and surrendered to officers without further incident.

The subject was immediately provided medical treatment and subsequently placed on a 72-hour mental health hold, as he was determined to be a danger to himself and others. The subject is a known transient with a criminal history that includes narcotics-related offenses and violent crimes.
