MAIL THEFT ARRESTS

Sunnyvale DPS detectives, working with California Parole Agents, investigated a series of community mailbox thefts affecting more than 40 mailboxes.

Search warrants at two suspects’ residences uncovered more than 100 pieces of suspected stolen mail at one location and over 80 pounds at the other, along with burglary tools, stolen USPS mailbox locks, checks, credit cards, personal identifying information, and suspected methamphetamine.

The stolen mail was linked to victims in Sunnyvale, San Jose, Mountain View, Menlo Park, Sausalito, and Oakland.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail. Detectives continue working to identify additional victims and determine the suspects’ involvement in other thefts.

We were honored to be at Sean's K-9s Luau over the weekend, celebrating the incredible work being done in memory of SPC Sean M. Walsh, a Military Police Soldier with the California Army National Guard and former Santa Clara Police Explorer. Sean’s K9s, founded by his mom Cheryl, keeps his legacy going by supporting law enforcement K9s and their handlers with dogs, equipment, training, and care.

A great organization honoring a local hero and making a difference for K9s and their handlers.

Today marks 50 years since Public Safety Officer Charles Fraker gave his life in the line of duty while serving the Sunnyvale community.

On August 1, 1976, Officer Fraker responded to a reported structure fire on Acalanes Drive while on patrol. Arriving before the fire apparatus, he immediately entered the involved apartment to assist. As firefighters arrived, Officer Fraker and another officer advanced a pre connected hose line into the residence. During the attack on what appeared to be a small bedroom fire, the room flashed over and Officer Fraker sustained fatal injuries.

Officer Fraker was only 25 years old and left behind his wife and two young children.

Half a century has passed, but we will never forget him or his sacrifice. Officer Fraker remains a lasting part of our department's history. His willingness to answer the call, without hesitation and at great personal cost, reflects the highest ideals of public service.

Congratulations to Captain Dzanh Le on his retirement after more than 23 years of dedicated service to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety and over 25 years in law enforcement.

Captain Le joined Sunnyvale DPS in 2003 after serving with the Honolulu Police Department. Throughout his career, he served in Patrol, Traffic, SWAT, the Tactical Medic Unit, and as a Patrol and Recruit Training Officer before promoting to Lieutenant in 2017 and Captain in 2022. He also proudly served as an Army Aviator in the Hawaii and California Army National Guard.

Thank you, Captain Le, for your leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to our department and community. Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and well-earned retirement! Congratulations!
