Bike Sunnyvale

It is OFFICIALLY October! That means it is OFFICIALLY “Sunnyvale Halloween and Crow Season!” Say that five times real fast! CAW CAW!

Have you signed up for the 5th Annual Sunnyvale Halloween Crow Ride on October 24 in Columbia Park?

The organizer now must go to into major GO CRAZY CROW MODE!

He will ride a CROWple hundred miles in circles around the Columbia Park Area to “sCROWpe” out Halloween decorations and where all the Crows hang out to come up with a family friendly bike “CROWse.”

Hey SNAIL.org citizens, get those decorations up and tell your neighbors!

Oh and if you see some guy on a bike with a rubber chicken hanging out of his jersey, WELL THAT is the guy looking to add your decorations to the route! Say Hi!

He says:

“No joke this is a LOT of work! But the fun part is I get to talk to YOU, local residents, neighbors of Sunnyvale, many of you putting your decorations up! Always my pleasure. I also get to talk to local businesses to ask about a few door prizes for participants. AND I will chat with a few non-profits, like Sunnyvale Community Services , to make sure we are aware of their service to the community! Thanks again to El Camino Healthcare District for providing funding this year to help our shared good CAWS!

Think of the ‘Crowmunity’ that flies above us every evening from all parts of Sunnyvale. They see it all! And that’s why I feel the CAWing to turn this event into one where we all see each other in our city, connecting the dots (like all those crows in the sky) between us and what we can do for each other. “

As said of the Sunnyvale Crows… “Why beat em when you can join them, and then create an event around them that supports the 'crowmmunity'? We CAW upon all of you to come have fun with us!"

Thanks Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Bike Sunnyvale for supporting this ride, Sunnyvale, and yes, the Sunnyvale Crows!

- Stay sharp: Look out for students walking, biking, and using crosswalks.
- Ditch the distractions: Put down the phone—a split second makes all the difference.

We got several hundred punctured bike tubes from Live in Peace Bike Shop, Bicycle Outfitter, Sports Basement, and Walt's Cycle. 15 volunteers became expert tube patchers and fixed about 100 of them. We packed up what could not be fixed or what we did not have time to fix to send to Schwalbe's tube recycling program (they pay for shipping) -- see https://www.schwalbe.com/en/schwalbe-recycling/

Special thanks to Walt's Cycle for being the local Schwalbe dealer that ships the tubes back to them and to Sports Basement for providing space to hold our tube patching event.

The fixed tubes are given away to those in need, used at the Bike Sunnyvale monthly repair clinic at the Sunnyvale Public Library, or donated to Live in Peace Bike Shop.

Hope you can join us in the future (see BikeSunnyvale.org)! It's fun (think sewing bee for bike tubes).
