Sturbridge has some of the best public safety officials around. Today Sturbridge C.E.R.T. joined Sturbridge Police Department and Sturbridge Fire Department in our annual National Night Out, connecting public safety with the public. CERT staffed a booth to teach disaster preparedness as well as monitored safety throughout the event...we also gave out cotton candy. We hope you had fun! Also in this photo is Police Chief/Emergency Management Director Dessert, Emergency Management Coordinator Wyke, and Animal Control Officer Connors.

The American Red Cross is alerting the public about an emergency blood shortage as the blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. The shortage is especially serious for types O positive and B negative blood.

If you want to help save lives, you can do the following:
*Schedule your blood or platelet donation today using the Blood Donor App (https://www.redcrossblood.org/blood-donor-app.html), by visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
*Consider hosting a Red Cross blood drive. If you know of someone who is willing to sponsor a blood drive, please ask them to submit their information at RedCrossBlood.org/HostADrive.

Last Wednesday and Sunday, Sturbridge CERT had the opportunity to assist Leominster Emergency Management with their world cup watch parties. Thank you for having us!

Also assisting were CERT members from Charlton CERT and Holden Cert. Once again, we enjoy being able to provide support and learn from others. This is how we continue to develop our vast skill set to better serve our community.

🚨MISSING 16 YEAR OLD MALE IN MONSON🚨

As of right now, the best things you can do are to spread the word, check any sheds/outbuildings on your property, and check any cameras you may have (critically helpful). Rogue search parties and untrained civilians can cause chaos to the organized search effort and destroy evidence (too many feet). Stationary eyes, however, are tremendously helpful. That's why countries build watchtowers!

Be careful with the upcoming heat! Here are some tips from the Sturbridge Police Department on how to stay safe. If you are in a position where you do not have a place to safely stay cool, be sure to call the Sturbridge Dispatch Center at (508) 347-2525.

**Extreme Heat Expected This Week – Stay Safe, Sturbridge**

Greetings Sturbridge,

With extreme heat expected throughout the week, the Sturbridge Police Department encourages everyone to take precautions to stay safe and avoid heat-related illnesses.

If you need a place to cool off during normal business hours, the following locations are available:

• Sturbridge Senior Center
• Joshua Hyde Public Library
• Sturbridge Public Safety Complex

If you or someone you know needs assistance due to the heat, please do not hesitate to contact the **Sturbridge Police Department at 508-347-2525, Ext. 0**. We are here to help.

**Heat Safety Tips:**

• Drink plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty.
• Stay indoors or in air-conditioned locations whenever possible.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
• Use sunscreen and wear a hat if you must be outside.
• Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and individuals who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Remember your pets — make sure they have plenty of fresh water and shade, and never leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle, even for a short period of time.

Please take care of yourselves, look out for your neighbors, and help keep our Sturbridge community safe during this period of extreme heat.

What a great day! Thank you America250 Sturbridge, Mass for an amazing parade and festival!
Thank you to Auburn CERT, Warren West Brookfield CERT Team, Charlton CERT, and Littleton Volunteer Corps - LVC for coming out to help us ensure a safe event. Thank you Sturbridge Fire Department for letting rescue Randy come out with us for a field trip- he was a great float participant. Thank you Sturbridge Police Department for supporting CERT with our float and towing it!
