June is National Dairy Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the dairy farmers who work every day to provide wholesome, nutritious food for our communities. Pennsylvania’s dairy farmers are the backbone of our agricultural economy, caring for their animals, stewarding the land, and producing high-quality milk and dairy products enjoyed by families across the Commonwealth. This month, we honor their hard work, dedication, and the vital role they play in keeping Pennsylvania agriculture strong. Thank you, dairy farmers!

“Kovach, the president of the farmers’ union, believes the case reflects a broader shift in agriculture: Livestock production and processing have become concentrated in the hands of fewer, larger operators. “What we need is a lot fewer plants that can handle 600 to 1,000 [cattle] a day and more that can handle 100 a day,” he said.”

Residents of a Pennsylvania town took on a beef processor after its waste polluted their wells. They won — but little may change.

“Family farmers are squeezed by low prices, rising costs, and deep uncertainty. Investing in local and regional food procurement isn’t just good policy — it’s how we keep family farms viable and rural communities strong,” said Rob Larew, President of National Farmers Union.

WASHINGTON – National Farmers Union, American Farmland Trust, National Association of State Departments of Agriculture and National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition today led an agricultural coalition letter urging Congress to include funding for local and regional procurement of domestically pro...

In the Mississippi Delta, a crucial agricultural region, farmers say their patience is wearing thin. Reeling from the effects of tariffs, they must now also navigate rising fertilizer and fuel costs.

mCOOL NOW!

The White House is celebrating the “Product of USA” meat label. For years, that label didn’t mean what people thought it did.

Global corporations could import meat and sell it as a “Product of USA.” Shoppers thought they were buying American. U.S. ranchers were getting undercut. And the biggest meatpackers were cashing in.

As of January 1, that loophole is finally closed. That is a real win for U.S. ranchers.

But here’s the part they’re leaving out:

This didn’t start yesterday. Ranchers started raising this issue in 2018. USDA denied our petition in the first Trump administration. Then the Biden administration proposed and finalized a rule to close the labeling loophole. It took effect this year, and now the Trump administration is celebrating it.

And the label is still voluntary.

It stops corporations from lying with “Product of USA.” But they still do not have to tell you where your meat comes from. They can leave the country off the label entirely.

We require country of origin labeling on products from T-shirts to dog bones. Meat should not be the exception.

That’s why we still need Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling.
