CarsonStrong Foundation Positively impacting children and their families facing a life-threatening diagnosis After taking part in an experimental protocol at St.

The CarsonStrong Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that enhances the quality of life for children facing cancer and other life challenges by funding programs that provide therapeutic, medical, and educational opportunities. The Higgins family founded the CarsonStrong Foundation in 2017, one year after losing their son and brother to cancer. Carson Higgins was first diagnosed with Stage 4 neur

oblastoma at the age of three. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Carson miraculously exhibited no signs of cancer. On Thanksgiving 2015, the cancer returned. This time, it was terminal. Carson passed away with his family, on their Trip Of A Lifetime, in 2016 at the age of 12. Carson faced adversity with peace and grace. In his short life, he inspired so many to be kind and generous, regardless of the circumstances. He was always “paying it forward”, and it is in this spirit that the CarsonStrong Foundation was formed. Through the CarsonStrong Foundation, the Higgins family and CarsonStrong donors help families and children affected by cancer and other life challenges. They seek to bring comfort and hope to families who are facing the unimaginable, just as family, friends and community members supported the Higgins family in their time of need. The CarsonStrong Foundation relies on individual and corporate donations to pay it forward. With your help, we can bring hope to other families facing difficult and sometimes devastating life challenges. Together, we are .

10 years ago today, the Higgins family received the news no family is ever prepared to hear. Carson’s scans showed lesions in both his lungs and liver, meaning the cancer had spread quickly despite treatment. Doctors shared that Carson was terminal and that, outside of a miracle, he would not survive.

In the days that followed came more scans, tests, uncertainty, and heartbreak as the family faced the reality of what was ahead.

Carson’s dad, John, later shared that he sat on the patio in Memphis prayed for strength, courage, comfort, and guidance. That night, he wrote a poem titled:

“Walking through the Valley of the Shadow of Death...”

As I ponder my existence
and the fate that awaits my son,
I think of You, my Lord,
and the great things You have done.

You taught me long ago to trust,
even when I could not understand.
Today, my heart is grieving
at the words the doctors had to say.

I thank You for Your unfailing love,
for Your strength, and for the promise of eternity.
I ask that Carson would be spared,
and if not his life, then spare him from pain.

Though we now walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I know every breath belongs to You.
If Your plan is to take Carson home,
give us strength and courage, for we are not alone.

I do not fear death, because I know
Your love endures forever.
My heart does grieve,
so I ask Your Spirit to carry us through
and bring us to a better place.

10 years ago today, the Higgins family left for a trip to Nashville that would later inspire the Gift of Time Together program. 💙

Carson was feeling good and wanted to do “something,” leading the family to spend a special weekend together in Nashville. Thanks to the kindness of family friend Gregg Wood, they stayed at Ga***rd Opryland Resort & Convention Center and created memories they would cherish forever.

During the trip, Carson felt well enough to swim, go out to eat, laugh with his family, and simply enjoy being together. What may have seemed like a simple getaway became something much greater — a reminder of how meaningful time together truly is.

That trip became the inspiration behind Gift of Time Together, helping families facing cancer and other significant life challenges create lasting memories with the people they love most.
