Alderwoman Alisha Sonnier (Ward 7)’s BB 91 establishes and funds an emergency response program to provide shelter access, survival supplies, and public outreach to our unhoused neighbors during extreme weather events. Called Code Blue, this program will be funded using an existing 3% sales tax on ma*****na sold in the City.

On October 12, St. Louis set a record we don’t want to beat: 94° in mid-October. 🌡️ It capped our longest 90-degree season on record, 191 days.

In the city, urban heat islands push temperatures even higher so it feels a lot hotter than the forecast says. Pavement and dark roofs are part of the problem. They trap warmth by day and release it after sunset.

Heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths, and we can push back starting in our own communities.

Missouri is rapidly becoming a major target for some of the largest data center projects in the country and communities across the state are pushing back. 🖥️

Last month, Franklin County commissioners voted unanimously to rezone Diamond Farm and Crooked Creek Farm from agricultural to industrial despite hours of resident opposition over noise, environmental impact, and proximity to elementary schools. Meet our two newest Advocacy Mini Grant recipients, working to improve environmental health and strengthen resilience in their own communities across Missouri:

🌱 Penrose Neighborhood Community Association-PNCA keeps residents informed on events, resources, and community developments. Members stay active in local government, combat illegal dumping, and organize frequent cleanups of neighborhood parks.

🌱 Kansas City Nature Works is a growing community initiative working to reconnect Kansas City’s urban core to nature through Blue River access, beautification, environmental awareness, and community partnership.

Eligible applicants can apply for up to $2,500 to build organizational capacity or launch a project that addresses an environmental health issue in their region. Mini grants are open statewide with no geographic limitation, and preference given to applicants serving historically disadvantaged communities.

Another staff retreat in the books! 💚 Our team works in every corner of Missouri, covering a lot of ground to protect the places we call home.

This time together allowed us to reset and recharge, celebrate our wins, and strategize about the environmental progress we want to continue building on.
