The 2026 Session is over, and it brought real wins, tough losses, and a handful of emerging issues that will shape how Missourians live, work, and experience the natural world. 🏛️

Not much legislation moved this session, so we played a lot of defense and faced a lot of bills with nuance as amendments and substitutes complicated our stances.

We blocked anti-solar bills. We stopped Bayer's pesticide immunity push for the third year running. We fought for abandoned landfill cleanup, clean water, protections from AI data centers moving into our communities, PFAS bans, radioactive waste safeguards and more.

Read our blog for a full review of what happened this session, what didn't make it across the finish line, and what we're carrying into next year: https://moenvironment.org/blog/missouri-2026-legislative-session-in-review

🌱 As a Member, you get access to the information, resources, and events that keep you connected to this work—including our End of Session Wrap-Up on June 10. None of this happens without our Members and allies. Every call, every email, every testimony moves the needle. Thank you for continuing to fight for Missouri's people and environment!

St. Louis Post-Dispatch featured our Policy Specialist Christen Commuso in a story about Missouri's 29 abandoned landfills leaching toxins into surrounding soil and waterways. A Franklin County property near one such dump tested positive for lead, arsenic, and PFAS in a nearby creek.

Senator Ben Brown's (R-26) proposal called for 10% of that fee to be used for remediating abandoned landfills. The bill also would enable the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to “assess, investigate, test, remediate, and manage” the sites even though they are on private property.

Generally Hauling landfill is one of at least 29 abandoned landfills the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has identified. The department has neither funds nor authority to clean them.
