Now - August 9th! VA Sales Tax Holiday!

This year, Aug. 7-9 has been designated as Virginia’s Sales Tax Holiday and offers residents a chance to shop eligible school supplies and clothing, emergency preparedness items and qualifying Energy Star and WaterSense items without paying sales tax.

The three-day holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and continues through Sunday at 11:59 p.m. 🛍️

Newington Forest will be hosting a community event tomorrow, Tuesday, August 4th from 5:00-7:00PM at the Community Center parking lot (office area).

The event is National Night Out, a nationwide event held each year on the first Tuesday in August, showing support for local law enforcement and first responders.

The community Cub Scout Troop 1683 will be grilling hot dogs, and if possible, please bring a side or dessert to share!.

Our local police and fire trucks will also stop by and show attendees their vehicles and equipment.

Please come and show your support. We hope to see you there!

Tuesday (8/4) 5-7 PM is National Night Out! 😃🚔🚘🇺🇸Join residents at the POOL for hot dogs 🌭🌭 grilled by the community Scouts! Local Police and Fire personnel will be stopping by. It's a night out held nationally on the first Tuesday in August to show support and give thanks to our local police and fire departments

Mount Vernon has got your back (to school)! Come out for our 4th Annual Back to School Community Day. Enjoy free giveaways of school supplies, health screenings, food, music, yard games, exhibitors, touch-a-truck and more fun activities for students and families to enjoy before the start of the new school year! At 10 a.m. we will have a special Arts in the Parks Children's Performance by Rocknoceros.

School Supply Giveaway Information: School supplies are for Fairfax County residents only. Parents with children present will receive one bag per child. Parents without children present will only receive ONE backpack. School supplies will be given away on a first come, first served basis.

Parking: We strongly advise carpooling! The Community Center parking lot is first come, first served and will fill up quickly! Overflow parking is located across the street at Lower Potomac Park. Shuttles will be available to and from the overflow lot & event. Police will be on site to assist with parking and traffic.
