Independent Theatre Company - Springfield, VA

Independent Theatre Company - Springfield, VA The talented young actors of the Independent Theatre Company put together creative productions of famous plays over the course of summer break.

The Independent Theatre Company strives to produce great plays in a casual, collaborative, and contemporary setting; to teach young actors to engage with Shakespeare's language; and to give back to the community through food pantry donations! Our past summer productions include Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (2012), Romeo and Juliet (2013), Much Ado About Nothing (2014), Richard III (2015), A Midsum

mer Night's Dream (2016), Julius Caesar (2017), Henry IV (2018), Winter’s Tale (2019), and Twelfth Night (2022), all performed in Springfield, VA. We operate with no budget and make no profits, instead collecting donations for Food For Others food pantry ministry. The audience for our most recent show gave nearly 300 pounds of food! We are a non-exclusive company and believe in giving every actor a chance to perform! Former cast members have come from over twenty different schools, ranged in age from 15-50 and majored in everything from Nuclear Engineering to Latin to Literature. Meet the cast of THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY: Shakespeare's Kings and Queens, which opens TOMORROW! Today’s featured player is Spencer Pilcher!

Character: I play Prince Hal, later known as King Henry V. As Prince Hal, he's a bit of a slacker and a goof-off, but definitely a people person. As King Henry, he is trying to find out how to be his own king, rather than a copy of his father.

Some past productions/ roles you've done, with us or elsewhere: With ITC, I've recently been Dogberry in Much Ado, Macbeth in Macbeth, and Duke Orsino in Twelfth Night. I've also recently been in PWLT's The Secret Garden as Albert Lennox and LTA's A Christmas Carol as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

About Spencer: I'm an engineer by day, theatre kid by night. I love spending time with other theatre folks, as well as watching movies and playing video games.

Favorite quote or scene from this play: I want to say it's the "Undercover Boss" scene where I say of the king (myself) "I think he would not wish himself any where but where he is." But truly my favorite scene and line is the Richard III and Elizabeth scene and the line "Without her, follows to this land and me, to thee, herself, and many a Christian soul, death, desolation, ruin and decay. It cannot be avoided but by this; it will not be avoided but by this."

A fond memory: Getting Japanese food with a gang of royals Richard II, Richard III, my on-stage father (Henry IV), my on-stage son (Henry VI)... and Falstaff.

Favorite fictional royal: If he counts as "royalty," then Emperor Kuzco! Otherwise, it's probably King Candy.

Shout out to the directors for stepping outside the box and trying out a new sort of show for ITC!

Meet the Cast of THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY: Shakespeare's Kings and Queens! Today's featured player is Connie Ramsey!

Character: Falstaff is a very fun and complex character who attaches himself to Prince Hal. He is so many things - fun and funny, lewd, rude, pompous, a thief, cunning, witty, someone who is always looking for quick ways to get ahead, but he is also caring, intelligent, naive, and frightened.

Past Productions:
Judith Bliss in Hay Fever (Globe Openstage)
Nurse in Romeo and Juliet (B&H)
King Duncan in Macbeth (Globe)
Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing (B&H)

About Connie:
I act, paint, draw, read, and take photos. I love to spend time with my grandchildren and to visit new places.

Favorite quote or scene:
Poor Richard II deciding whether or not to give up his crown. "Ay, no, no, ay."

Fond memories:
So many, including fun summer BBQs, birthday parties, and a cozy zoom Christmas party during Covid.

Favorite fictional or fictionalized royal:
Queen Margaret in Shakespeare's plays - deliciously derisive and vengeful
and
Whoopi Goldberg as the Queen in Cinderella - she is delightful

Shout-out to Megan and Wendy for directing and producing this and other great summer productions. Also a shout-out to my fellow actors, who are incredibly talented and wonderful to work with.

Character: Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV) is an ambitious nobleman who usurps the throne and spends the rest of his life fighting to keep it. Haunted by guilt, his chief thoughts are of legacy and trying to get his unruly son to step up and carry the dynastic torch, as if that might atone for his previous treason.
