Personal property taxes — better known as car taxes — are due on Monday, Oct. 5. Bills were mailed this summer, and there are many convenient ways to pay.
New this year: the county now has four self-pay kiosks that accept cash, checks, debit and credit cards.
Ways to Pay: Online is Quick, Easy and Free
1. When paying by e-check or via debit or credit card, you can schedule when you want the money to be sent from your bank account. While you can pay online using a credit or debit card, be aware that a third-party service fee will be applied.
2. Self-Pay Kiosks. Kiosks are available at four locations around the county, including the Gerry Hyland Building in the Franconia District. Payments can be made with cash, check, debit and credit cards.
3. Phone. Call 703-222-6740, TTY 711; available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A third-party service fee will be applied.
4. Mail. Return your payment by mail using the envelope that came with your bill.
5. Drop box. If you are paying with a check or money order, you can put your payment in the secure, red drop boxes at the Fairfax County Government Center or in the designated book drops at five libraries, including Sherwood Regional in Alexandria, until Oct. 5.
6. Government Center Customer Service Counter. If you decide to pay in-person at the Fairfax County Government Center (Suite 223), be prepared to wait in line.
