Food waste and food insecurity shouldn’t exist side by side—but in many communities, they do.

In Massachusetts, initiatives like MassDEP’s commercial food waste ban are helping divert excess food away from landfills. At the same time, organizations like Rachel's Table (RTWM) are stepping in to ensure that surplus food reaches the people who need it most.

With programs ranging from food rescue to farm gleaning, RTWM delivers fresh food—often within 30 minutes of pickup—to more than 65 partner agencies across Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin counties.

Reducing waste while strengthening food access is a win for the environment and our communities.
