was organized in 1975, the Council is a community based organization comprised of volunteers and was established to gather information on community issues and provide a public forum for the discussion of community concerns. plays a principal role in representing residents and businesses in an effort to achieve projects that will enhance and promote social and economic growth in the South End. Some

of the Council's functions include sponsoring neighborhood elderly and youth events, working with neighborhood businesses regarding special permits, zone changes, liquor licenses and other business and residential concerns.

Mayor Sarno issues statement on passing of Ace Community Photographer Ed Cohen

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “I am very sorry to hear about the passing of ace community photographer Ed Cohen. My sympathy, thoughts, prayers, and encouragement go out to his family, friends, and colleagues. Ed was ever-present at Springfield’s community events. A great photographer who took many poignant, historic, and heartwarming photo-shots that depicted everyone from leaders in our community to the everyday person. He was a kind and affable gentleman who, even with his continued health challenges, kept going. We will miss him and I’m sure he’s going to get some great photo-shots up in heaven. May God Rest his soul.”
