GSSSI is closed today, Monday, October 12 to honor the Indigenous peoples who lived on this land long before us.

Springfield, Massachusetts sits on the ancestral homeland of the Pocumtuc people. Their traditions, care for the land, and community shaped this region for thousands of years.
We also acknowledge the Nipmuc, Wampanoag, and Mahican peoples, as well as the Native families who continue to live, gather, and contribute to Western Massachusetts today.

If you would like to learn more about Indigenous culture in our area, we encourage you to explore Ohketeau— a Native-founded cultural center that offers local programs, education, and events.

The US National Weather Service Boston MA is forecasting a Nor’easter that will impact Massachusetts this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with the most significant impacts on Cape Cod and the Islands.

Tips for preparing ahead of the storm:

• Monitor conditions closely and ensure that Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) are enabled on your cell phone. If your community has a reverse 911 system, you should sign up to receive local warnings. ✔️

• Make sure your home emergency kit is stocked with supplies that could help in the event of a power outage, including a flashlight and extra batteries. ✔️
