🖨️💡 Big ideas, meet 3D printing! An Innovative Educator Grant awarded to Jason Dixon, Special Education Teacher at Hamlin Middle School, is helping students turn their creativity into real-world creations. With a new 3D printer, students will design, build, test, and improve everything from classroom learning models to custom fidgets that support focus and self-regulation. Along the way, they’ll build problem-solving skills, explore engineering and technology, and discover that a great idea can become something they can actually hold in their hands. Who knows what they’ll dream up next? The possibilities are practically three-dimensional! 🚀✨

"Over time, the goal is for the 3D printer to become a trusted, well-used tool in the school. Students will see it not as a special extra, but as a normal part of how they explore ideas and solve problems. 📖💛 A good book can open a door to a whole new world, and sometimes it can help you find your community, too! An Innovative Educator Grant awarded to SPS Student Success Navigator Ayanna Moriguchi will bring a monthly book club to Black Student Success Groups across Springfield’s elementary schools. Students will receive culturally relevant books to build their own home libraries, then gather with families to share a meal, explore hands-on activities inspired by each story, and connect with other students who share similar experiences. It’s literacy, learning, culture, and community all wrapped up in one great book! ✨👍🏽

We are so grateful for OCCU‘s support! ✏️ many bins of school supplies were split up among the Family Resource Centers at each school, preparing our students and educators for another successful year.

When supplies run low, it can interrupt learning. We appreciate our community partners like OCCU, who go above and beyond  to ensure our school’s supply shelves are stocked! ✂️🖍️📔

Seventy backpacks. More than $1,700 in school supplies. One goal: helping local students start the year ready to learn. 🎒✏️

Our Mohawk branch teamed up with the Springfield Education Foundation to collect supplies and fill backpacks with pencils, markers, glue sticks, erasers and more.

As branch manager Edwin Bramlett shared, “It was especially rewarding to know that these items will directly support students and help provide them with the resources they need to learn and thrive.”

We’re proud to support local students and grateful to the Springfield Education Foundation for helping us turn generosity into a strong start to the school year. 💚

🎺🔧 Keeping the music playing takes more than practice! After seeing the success of an instrument repair program that SEF funded at THS last year, Springfield High School is bringing the idea to its own music program. A SEF Innovative Educator Grant to SHS's Band & Orchestra Director, Jon Bridges, will create an on-site instrument repair and maintenance workspace, allowing staff to handle routine repairs, get instruments back into students’ hands faster, and reduce costly shop visits. Even better, interested students will have the opportunity to learn hands-on repair skills that could open doors to future careers in music technology and instrument repair. It’s a win for the music program and a pretty cool opportunity for students to learn a trade along the way! 🎶🛠️

"Not only will this save money, it will get instruments back to students faster and limit the amount of instrument-sharing that needs to occur when instruments are in the shop. By coordinating repair equipment between different schools, we can provide a wide array of repair options for a smaller overall startup cost." - Jon Bridges

🍂 October is one of our favorite months at SEF with some great reasons to celebrate! This month marks the 3 years of service on our Board of Directors for our Board Chair, Adriel Pickar. It's also the 2 year anniversary of David Hersch joining our board, and it's his birthday tomorrow. And later this month, we will wish happy birthday to our board member of 5 years, Crystal McPheeters!

We're so proud to have a community of strong supporters in our corner! Thanks to each of you for making Springfield stronger, supporting students, and helping us to reach for the stars!
