This summer, South Valley hosted a free book fair in partnership with Eugene’s SEAL program (Summer Enrichment and Academic Learning) and we were able to give away 290 books to 97 kids! 🤩 📚️ Here’s what our Program Manager, Emily Midyette, had to say about the success of the partnership:

“One of my favorite parts was seeing the reaction to the bilingual books from the students who spoke Dari and Ukrainian at home. They were literally bouncing with joy! The kiddos made thank you cards, and when I went to pick them up the administrator told me the mother of the Ukrainian student came to the school to express her gratitude. She said it is very difficult to find Ukrainian children's literature and she is delighted to have some to share with her family!” 😊

Meet our Staff: I'm Bigfoot AKA Biggie! My Mom is Molly, a Program Manager at SMART Reading and I think she's pretty amazing! She loves to read books and I love to chew on them, so we make a great team! Everybody give Molly and Biggie a round of a PAWS!

SMARTie Party! 🌻🥳🌷
The North Coast community rallied on August 20 to celebrate volunteerism, kids, and books, and to wish SMART a happy 35th birthday!

Dozens of reading volunteers, educators, and patrons showed up, swapped stories, and donated funds to help purchase books for kids participating in SMART this fall in Clatsop and Tillamook counties.

Arline LaMear, children's author, read her latest book, Everybody Reads. Thank you, volunteers, and special thanks to our sponsors Lum's Auto and TLC!
