"A Place To Exist" is the story of Camp Hope, the largest homeless camp in the State of Washington, from its inception in December of 2021 on the sidewalk outside City Hall to its successful closure in June of 2023. I wrote this book because I was there from the day it opened until the day it closed (I worked as one of the Camp Managers for 9 months). And I wrote it because I was genuinely concerned that the story of the Camp - and its relationship to overall homelessness in Spokane - would be lost over time. And those who forget the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat them. Lest we forget . . . and repeat. ~ Maurice Smith, Author
