We are writing with a heavy heart to share that we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Week 7 camp session.⁣⁣⠀

This decision was not made lightly. Based on current air quality conditions, along with data from our on-site monitoring equipment and regional forecasting tools, we do not feel we can safely provide the healthy outdoor environment that is essential to the camp experience. The well-being of our campers and staff will always guide our decisions.⁣⁣⠀

We know how much campers look forward to their time at Camp Reed, and we understand how disappointing this news may be for your family. Please know that we share in that disappointment. We were truly looking forward to welcoming your camper to camp this week, and we are deeply sorry that we are not able to do so.⁣⁣⠀

Hello Week 7 Camper & CIT Families,

After carefully reviewing recent Air Quality Index (AQI) levels and seeing conditions maintain at levels that would impact our ability to safely operate camp, we have made the difficult decision to delay the start of camp.

We know this is disappointing news, especially as we all look forward to welcoming campers to Camp Reed. Our priority is creating a safe environment for our campers, staff, and volunteers, and the current air quality conditions mean we need to take this additional time before beginning the session.

We will continue to assess conditions and available forecasts as we look toward the week ahead. Our team will provide another update at 4:00 PM Sunday, August 9th, with information about our plans and whether a Monday start at 4:00 PM will be possible. Please keep in mind, if AQI levels do not improve, there is a possibility camp may be cancelled for the week.

Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate these changing conditions. We know many families are also managing difficult circumstances related to the ongoing fires, and please know that you are in our thoughts.

We will make a decision regarding Week 7 drop-off by 4p on Saturday. We will communicate that decision with families via email, social media and text. ⁣⁣⠀

To determine whether it is safe to open camp, our team will consider the current indoor and outdoor AQI, a six-hour lookback at air quality trends, and multiple forecasting tools.⁣⁣⠀

We are also continuously monitoring air quality at camp using both indoor and outdoor monitors. This allows us to make the most informed decision possible based on the conditions at camp and how they are trending.⁣⁣⠀

After closely monitoring today's air quality and reviewing the best forecasting tools available to us, we expect air quality to remain at levels that would require campers to stay indoors for the remainder of the day. Because we do not anticipate conditions improving enough to safely resume outdoor programming, we have made the difficult decision to end camp early today, Friday, August 7.⁣⁣⠀

The health and well-being of our campers, staff, and volunteers will always be our highest priority, and we are sorry the fires are impacting camp. While our indoor spaces are equipped with air filtration systems and our staff have been providing engaging indoor programming throughout the morning, we believe ending camp early is the best decision given today's forecast.⁣⁣⠀

Campers will be available for checkout beginning at 1:00 PM at the Lodge. If you are unable to pick up your camper before 4:00 PM, please email [email protected] so we can coordinate an alternative pickup time.⁣⁣⠀

Hello Week 6 & CIT Session 3 Families!

We’re encouraged by the improved air quality at camp this morning. While we recognize how quickly conditions can change, we are excited to welcome our Week 6 campers and Session 3 CITs to camp today.

Check-in will take place from 4:00–5:00 PM. If you’re unable to arrive during that window, please email [email protected] to let us know your anticipated arrival time so we can plan accordingly.

We’ll continue to closely monitor air quality throughout the session. Camp Reed has alternative programming that allows us to move activities indoors or reduce outdoor activity if conditions warrant. If changing conditions require us to end the session early due to smoke, we will communicate with families immediately using the same methods we’ve been using throughout the weekend: email, social media, and phone calls. We also encourage families to talk to their campers about possible program changes or cancellations to help set expectations.

We also want families to know that Camp Reed has a comprehensive emergency evacuation plan in place should we ever need to leave camp quickly. We have multiple transportation options on standby and several predetermined relocation sites, allowing us to safely move campers if necessary. Families would be notified immediately through email, social media, and phone calls with details on where campers have been relocated and reunification instructions.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and trust over the past few days as we’ve navigated these rapidly changing conditions. The safety of our campers, staff, and volunteers will always remain our highest priority.

As promised, we wanted to share another update on air quality. We did see the Air Quality Index (AQI) increase overnight, but we're encouraged that conditions have improved this morning and continue to trend in the right direction. We will keep monitoring throughout the morning and plan to make a final decision about today's, Aug 2, check-in by 12:00pm.
If air quality does not improve enough for us to safely open camp today, our plan would be to delay check-in and welcome campers on Monday instead.
We know how much everyone has been looking forward to this week, and we are too. At the same time, the health and safety of our campers, staff, volunteers, and families will always come first.
We also want you to know that we're thinking of all of the families who have been affected by these fires. We recognize this has been an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for many in our community, and our hearts are with you. We remain hopeful that conditions will continue to improve and that we'll be able to welcome everyone to Camp Reed very soon. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support.

Our hearts go out to the families in our area who are being impacted by the wildfires. At this time the air quality is good at Camp Reed and we will be welcoming campers tomorrow, Aug 2, for our next session. We will closely monitor conditions and will communicate any changes promptly via email and social media.

We also recognize that some of our camp families may be facing evacuation or unexpected challenges. If your camper is registered for the Aug 2 session and you need assistance gathering supplies for your camper, please reach out to us at [email protected]. Please provide as much detail (size, etc.) as possible.

We are holding our community in our thoughts and are here to support you however we can.
