Let's celebrate some great progress on today's ! Strong, educated girls grow into strong empowered women! In less than 3 years, child marriage rates have plummeted where World Vision is working in Samburu County, Kenya from over 60% to 10% through World Vision's Big Dream to End Child Marriage! FGM rates have plummeted too, to under 14% (from 67%!). Comprehensive and intentional programming is why: built on a foundation of access to education, economic empowerment, access to clean water, mindset and behavior change and strengthening governmental and other child protection systems. Read more from Margaret Schuler, World Vision's Chief Impact Officer and SVP below!

What does it take to end child marriage, FGM, and other forms of violence against young girls? It is a complex topic, and yet, World Vision and our partners…

Economically empowering fathers and mothers is a crucial part of World Vision's Big Dream to End Child Marriage. The bride price a family receives in exchange for marrying their girl off is a big driver that keeps child marriage alive. But the future is changing! World Vision works to economically empower fathers and mothers so that they see a brighter future for themselves AND their children. The dignity of work and self esteem that comes with being able to provide AND pay for school for their children is transformative! I LOVE this comprehensive approach World Vision takes to end child marriage in Kenya (and now, in Bangladesh also)!
By empowering caregivers economically, the Big Dream to End Child Marriage program aims to remove the economic drivers to child marriage and ensure children enjoy the fullness of life.

World Vision is awesome! Part of the Big Dream to End Child Marriage is to provide children a way to accelerate their learning and CATCH UP to their grade level. Many parents never valued education so many of their children haven't had an opportunity to learn. But brighter days are here and these children now will be able to learn with their classmates and join school because of this accelerated learning program! Every child who picks up a book instead of being forced into child marriage brings us closer to ending this practice for good. Wahoo!!!

World Vision's Alternative Rite of Passage is another key pillar to change behavior in the community to choose to abandon child marriage and FGM! This is a great example of giving children a voice to advocate for themselves, for providing the community to affirm that they will no longer marry their girls off as children AND that they WILL support their children to go to school! One of many examples of the 5 pillars of the Big Dream to End Child Marriage in synchronized action! I love this comprehensive approach!

Education is everything to a child, and ensuring Access to Education is one of the 5 key pillars for World Vision's Big Dream to End Child Marriage. World Vision's work goes beyond providing school fees and building classroom and dormitories. They also ensure children know their rights and have a platform to advocate to government and other adults in authority to push for the resources and support so that they can learn and ultimately create a bright future for themselves! This is one of the reasons we continue to support World Vision and the Big Dream! Join us!

I am thrilled to share that World Vision in Kenya has launched the next expansion of the Big Dream to hashtag in 3 new counties in Kenya (and hashtag where practiced along with other forms of GBV)! This brings the total number of counties to 7: West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, Migori, Narok, Marsabit, and Turkana! The mission: to tackle the ROOT CAUSES of child marriage and empower every girl to pursue her dreams.
Please join us in celebrating and financially supporting this launch and what it will mean to hundreds of thousands of girls in the coming 6 years!

Important context from World Vision East Africa:
