🗳️ Your vote is your voice, and this election, we need to make sure it’s heard loud and clear!
When you head to the polls, remember that change doesn't just happen at the top of the ticket. Local elections—from school boards and city councils to judges and state representatives—have a massive, direct impact on our daily lives.
Let's make a plan to vote all the way down the ballot and ensure we are supporting candidates who truly have the best interests of our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and neighbors in mind. 🏳️‍🌈✨
Here is how you can prepare:
1️⃣ Check your registration: Double-check your status and polling location early.
2️⃣ Do your homework: Research down-ballot candidates and look at non-partisan voter guides or endorsements from trusted LGBTQ+ advocacy groups.
3️⃣ Make your plan: Decide exactly when you’re going, how you're getting there, and who you're bringing with you!

Pronouns can be tricky! Maybe it’s your first time using they/them to refer to a single person, or maybe a loved one is transitioning and wants to use a pronoun that affirms their gender identity—but is new to you. Whatever the case may be, there are lots of ways to learn, honor, and use someone’s pronouns. Here are a few to get your started:

• Try a role play with someone (who is NOT your LGBTQ+ loved one) to help you understand what it feels like to be misgendered.
• Write a story about your loved one using their affirmed name and pronouns.
• Make a gender jar and put $1.00 in the jar every time you make a mistake.

New HHS rule issued—and we know it’s scary. Here’s what you need to know: The new HHS rule impacts youth under the age of 18 for Medicaid and 19 for CHIP—it does NOT ban care, but does prohibit federal Medicaid and CHIP funding from being used for medically necessary care for transgender youth. The rule is expected to go into effect mid-October.

Now, here’s what else you need to know: Everyone, regardless of gender identity, deserves the healthcare they need when they need it. Today’s new rule from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services restricting access to medically necessary care for transgender young people is hurtful and harmful, and our hearts go out to all the families impacted. We will NEVER stop fighting for you and all of our trans loved ones.

🌈🕯 Remembering Pulse | June 12, 2016 🕯🌈

Today, we honor the 49 lives lost and all those forever changed by the horrific act of hate at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. It was not only an attack on the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities—it was an attack on love, joy, and the right to exist freely and proudly.

At PFLAG Southern Pines, we remember them. We say their names. And we continue to fight for a world where everyone is safe to live and love as they are.

We stand with the survivors, the families, and our entire LGBTQ+ family—today and every day. 💔🏳️‍🌈
