Recently, this group enjoyed a fun-filled day trip to Chippewa Bowl — sharing laughs, making memories, and building community together. Moments like these remind us that connection, joy, and belonging matter at every age.

We’re grateful to Wells Fargo Trusts and Community Foundation of St. Joseph County for helping make outings and enrichment opportunities like this possible for our seniors.

South Bend Heritage is proud to have established the Charles Martin Youth Center — a place built on opportunity, mentorship, and access to a brighter future.

The Charles Martin “Touch A Life” Scholarship continues that legacy by supporting academically motivated Black and African American students right here in St. Joseph County.

If you know a graduating senior who qualifies, encourage them to apply before February 15.

—a time to reflect, learn, and take action. Poverty isn’t a personal failure; it’s a housing issue, a wage issue, and a systems issue. When rent continues to rise faster than incomes, stable housing becomes out of reach, and homelessness becomes a very real risk for hundreds of families in our region.
That’s why projects like SB RESI matter. When completed in 2027, SB RESI will create attainable, supportive housing for 22 households currently experiencing homelessness in our community—offering not just a roof, but stability, dignity, and a foundation for a better future.
This month, South Bend Heritage is centering opportunity, partnership, and solutions. We’re proud to work alongside Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority, City of South Bend - Municipal Government and Oaklawn Psychiatric Center to turn awareness into action and vision into impact.
