🐾 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT — BRIANNA STEINBERG 🐾
It’s time for our first Midwest Tri-State NAVHDA Member Spotlight!
We have a lot of great people — and great bird dogs — in our chapter, and we thought this would be a fun way to get to know some of the people you see at training days, tests, meetings, and events.
This week, meet Brianna Steinberg and Faust!
📍 Sioux Falls, SD
💻 Occupation: IT Systems Analyst
🐾 NAVHDA Member: 4 years (Also our wonderful Navhda Test secretary)
How did you get into bird dogs?
“My grandfather trained pointing dogs, typically German Shorthairs and Wirehairs, my whole life. When he passed away, my husband and I took in his 11-year-old German Wirehaired Pointer. Through her, and some friends that were already in NAVHDA, we joined the group, and I’ve been hooked ever since.”
What’s your favorite part about training or hunting with your dog?
“I love watching my dog work a field or slough and seeing his pride and happiness returning to me with a bird in his mouth. My favorite part about training with him is watching a concept finally click and seeing him realize, ‘Oh, if I do this, I get more birds!’”

Favorite thing about Faust?
“I love his mellow, happy temperament. He’s just as happy to work a field or slough for hours as he is to lay on me on the couch.”
Something funny about him?
“He has figured out how to open the zipper on my backpack and likes to steal things out of it to bring to me. He is always very proud of himself when presenting me with a mouse pad or lunch bag that he acquired while I wasn’t paying attention.”

🦆 FAVORITE MEMORY
“My husband and I took him and a friend of ours duck hunting early one morning. A huge flock of ducks came in, and between the three of us, we shot six ducks.
After my husband and I sent Faust on multiple backs to retrieve our ducks, our buddy was having trouble finding his second duck on the other side of the pond. I sent Faust on a very long back across the slough, and he came right back with our buddy’s duck.
The duck search part of a UT test is often a handler’s least favorite section, but that training allowed us to bring home all six ducks our party had shot that day.”
