Dear Pantry Volunteers,

It is with a heavy heart that I share news of the passing of a dear friend of the pantry, Bernie Relf. Many of you had the great chance to know Bernie over the twenty years he devoted to the pantry, and he was quite a force. He cared deeply and knew how to get things done. He had a positive impact on many lives - of those that depended on the panty and those that volunteered alongside him.

There will be a funeral mass held at St Camillus at 1 pm on Saturday, November 2.

This video from a recent award from Montgomery County (one of many he received over the years for his amazing public service) offers an inspiring glimpse into Bernie’s dedication to helping others and is a nice way to remember him, or get to know him, if you are a new comer to the pantry:

Lace up Your Sneakers!
Last year's St John the Jogger Virtual 5K to benefit the food pantry was a great success. Over $14,000 was raised for the pantry as participants walked, jogged, ran, and sashayed around the DC metro area and beyond! Plans for the 2022 5K are already in the works. Sign up at the link below!

Young Jamal and his family, already registered for the upcoming virtual 5K, took plants from their yard to sell to neighbors in their own inspiring contactless plant sale - to benefit the St Camillus Food Pantry. The sale was held this past Saturday, and they had $281 worth of earnings to donate on the St John the Jogger website! A big THANK YOU to Jamal and his family! St. John the Jogger 5K. Fundraiser to Benefit the Pantry!

The Knights of Columbus from St John the Baptist in Silver Spring is hosting a Virtual 5K, where participants can run, jog, walk, skip, or dance their distance, which can be 5K OR a 1-mile fun run. ALL PROCEEDS benefit our food pantry! We are hoping to enroll as many participants as possible for the run/walk which will be held at each participant’s location of choice (a school track, local park, a favorite walking path, one’s own neighborhood, even the treadmill in the basement, if that’s your choice!) at any point between May 1-9, 2021

The $20 registration fee gets you into the race AND gets you a super cool race shirt that you can wear even in the days leading up to the race! The St Camillus Food Pantry is anticipating the loss of many spring and summer volunteers as the students, teachers, and administrative staff among them prepare for the upcoming school year. If you are interested in volunteering at the Pantry, there are many areas where your help might be needed. If you are able to lift 30-40 pounds for food delivery unloading and are available on Thursdays mid-day, please contact Patty Kolar at [email protected]

If you are comfortable using a computer, able to lift 20-25 pounds, comfortable standing for a few hours, or bilingual (Spanish/English) AND available Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings, please contact Jean Guevara at [email protected]
