The Journal of Music Therapy (established 1964, https://academic.oup.com/jmt) and Music Therapy Perspectives (established in 1983, https://academic.oup.com/mtp) are official publications of the American Music Therapy Association. The journal publishes only the very best of what is submitted and includes articles concerning the psychology of music, applied music therapy techniques, perception of mu

sic, and effects of music on human behavior. All papers for publication are selected on the basis of their quality and contribution to existing knowledge. Manuscripts accepted for publication include, but are not limited to: qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodologies; historical, descriptive, philosophical, or experimental designs; and integrative reviews, meta-analysis or meta-synthesis. MTP seeks to speak to the direct clinical and professional experiences of practicing music therapists; include information useful to music therapists, music therapy students, and professionals interested in the therapeutic uses of music; address issues related to the student and professional supervision; include articles addressing the education and training of music therapists; and address ethical concepts and issues as they pertain to music therapy education, training, research and professional practice. MTP publishes all forms of reports that have implications for music therapy practice including clinically focused research reports, innovative developments, case studies, educational research, and theoretical articles.

We have some exciting news to share!

JMT’s 2025 impact factor is 2.3, up substantially from the previous year. This places us 46th in the Rehabilitation category and moves JMT into Q2.

What does that mean? A journal’s impact factor is one measure of a journal’s influence. This one provides an indication of how often its recently published research is cited by other scholarly publications.

This growth belongs to our JMT community. Thank you to everyone who contributes to the journal as an author, reviewer, editor, or reader. Your hard work is helping JMT reach new heights!
