The past 7 months, we’ve gotten to spend time with these two as they joined our team as interns. Ashlyn is an MSW student at the University of Denver, and Jennifer is a BASW student at UW. Here are some words about what the past several months have been like with Ashlyn & Jennifer around :)
Ashlyn applied her studies to her time at SYM by connecting deeper with clients in programs like Breakfast and Drop-In, never hesitating to jump in in a crisis or offer her presence in a conversation. She got to partner with Jennifer in leading a summer of Activities & Outings and did so energetically and with so much care. She also supported SYM staff by writing up training tips for our volunteers, which helped encourage further engagement within our volunteer teams in the winter and spring. Towards the end of her internship, Ashlyn got to lead a Harm Reduction training for SYM staff and shadow our Case Manager to get a sense for that kind of direct service. Ashlyn’s thoughtfulness and refusal to shy away from tough situations is incredible. ✨
Jennifer provided program support in both Breakfast and Drop-In and got to work with Ashlyn on leading our Activities & Outings program as well! She worked closely with our Operations Assistant on procurement and events, including Bingo, Breakfast at Nine, and our recent Back to Basics drive! Jennifer’s willingness to engage with the community around SYM, whether through business relationships or churches, has set us up well for future fundraising efforts. Last month, she made a connection with Bulldog News that has led to a beautiful partnership! She brought joy and friendliness to every client, volunteer, staff and donor interaction, and we are so excited to see her continue to shine as she pursues a career in Social Work. 🫶🏻
Can hardly say enough about these two! This isn’t goodbye but a profound thank you as we celebrate their continued pursuit of their dreams to do such good things in the world!
