We've been receiving fewer non-perishable foods from our usual partners and need your help to keep our warehouse stocked!

You can help by hosting a food drive at your workplace, school, or community group! We especially need the following items:

- Canned protein (tuna, chicken, SPAM)
- Canned soup (pop-top, non-condensed)
- Cereal
- Juice/drinks
- Pasta sauce
- Shelf-stable & alternative milks

Lately, some folks have been hosting drives for just a single type of these items, which has helped us plan ahead for our weekly food orders more easily. Hosting a drive for a single type of item can also make it easier for folks who want to support your drive but may not know exactly what foods to donate.

Want more information or a customized flyer and donation page for your drive? Visit our Host a Drive page on our website and tell us about your fundraiser idea!

Each month, we include a recipe in our Wallingford Food Bank newsletter for our participants to try! This month, in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we adapted a recipe for Chupe de Pollo by Gaby Weir Vera for Feast Magazine. Chupe is a word used in South America to describe a hearty, main course soup. This Venezuelan recipe is creamy like a corn chowder.

Click the link to view the recipe on our website and try out this delicious dish!

Both our English-language Women’s Empowerment Group and Mujeres Adelante, our Spanish-language group, welcomed South Seattle artist Amaranta Ibarra-Sandys to facilitate a tree of gratitude activity.

During both sessions, Amaranta invited the women to visualize the things in life that they’re thankful for. As they painted their trees with watercolors, Amaranta continued to ask them “What are you feeling? What are you thinking about?,” deepening the meaning behind each tree.

After they finished, Amaranta helped everyone spray their trees with water and add salt to create beautiful, crystalline textures.

Interested in joining either of our women's empowerment groups? Contact Gladys Martinez at [email protected].

Our 2026 Sunday Supper is just 4 weeks away, and ticket sales end on Friday, September 25th!

Join us Sunday, October 18 at the National Nordic Museum’s Osberg Great Hall for an evening of community and celebration as we come together in support of local families. At Sunday Supper, you’ll learn about the impact of FamilyWorks’ programs directly from participants, enjoy a gourmet, locally-sourced dinner, and connect with neighbors who care about supporting their community in the same way you do.

At FamilyWorks, we believe support should be easy to access. That’s why at this year’s event, we’ll be highlighting the ways we bring food, family support services, and resource navigation directly to families through our growing partnerships with housing organizations.

Did you know that 40% of U.S. families with young children struggle to afford diapers?

During Hunger Action Month, we're reminded that building strong communities means helping families access all the essentials they need to thrive. This week is Diaper Need Awareness Week—a chance to come together and ensure every child has the resources they need to stay healthy, happy, and cared for.

Your support this week helps power FamilyWorks’ Diaper Bank, keeping more than 440 babies and toddlers safe, clean, and dry each year.

Diaper insecurity doesn’t just affect babies and toddlers. It impacts parents’ ability to work, attend school, and provide for their families. Many caregivers report needing to miss work due to not having the number of diapers required to drop their children off at childcare, deepening financial hardship for families.

The need is clear:
👶 Diapers are the foundation of a baby’s care, with infants going through 5 to 12 diapers each day.
💸 Diapers and wipes cost families $50-$200+ each month, making a considerable dent in an already tight budget.
❌ Unlike other necessities such as food, there is no federal assistance program to help families pay for diapers.

Your gift today provides families with more than just diapers. You’re giving families the stability to focus on nurturing their children and achieving their goals rather than worrying about whether they can afford to buy more diapers for their growing child.

In honor of Diaper Need Awareness Week, click the link to help provide vital resources for Seattle families by making a donation to FamilyWorks today.

Gayathri Pochamreddy, a member of our participant advisory committee Family Alliance for Resource & Engagement (FARE), and Theresa Williams, our Supportive Family Programs Manager, both got a chance to speak to Melody Ip at Seattle's Child about the impact of Family Resource Centers in the greater Seattle area.

In the article, Gayathri and Theresa speak to the importance of FARE in shaping FamilyWorks' programs, from Mobile Food Pantry shopping sites to classes and workshops designed for caregivers of teenagers. You can also learn more about our friends at Akin, who help coordinate the Washington Family Support Network, a state-wide effort to strengthen families and communities through Family Resource Centers.
