The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health has just released its annual State Report Cards, and you can view them now. The overall U.S. grade improved slightly over last year, from a C- to a C, but NO states received As. In Washington, we are one of only 11 states that scored in the B range. The U.S. earned an F in the new "Parental Support" metric, which measures data on parental leave and childcare availability, among others.

We are so proud to share that Governor Bob Ferguson has signed a proclamation declaring May as Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month!

Our Executive Director shares, "Maternal mental health impacts not only parents, but entire families and communities. We are deeply honored that WA State has officially recognized May as Maternal Mental Health Month. This proclamation reflects years of advocacy, collaboration, and the voices of parents across our state who deserve compassionate and accessible support from pre-conception through postpartum. At PS-WA, we believe every parent, parent-to-be, and those who aspire to be parents, should know they are not alone and that mental health care is an essential part of maternal health care."

We were honored to work with the Washington State Health Care Authority and the UW PERC Center on this important initiative that will spread awareness and education on maternal mental health for years to come.

This weekend, we were honored to celebrate our Warm Line volunteers at our annual appreciation brunch. Our Senior Warm Line Program Manager, Victoria, wanted to share a few words about their work as well:

"It is such a gift that you provide to those calling in. That gift is YOU!! Your presence, holding space with compassion, kindness, and empathy. Seeing the humanity in those you support. I know it can feel like listening isn’t enough, and of course, we want to fix things. But in our society, we don’t make space to hear and witness the hard things, especially in the perinatal period.

So it is an amazing gift that you provide when you pick up that call or text. What you do and the space you hold matter! Those you serve feel all of what you show up with, and they get to let it all out, be listened to, and maybe make space to breathe for the first time. IT MATTERS!!

YOU are the program, YOU are the Warm Line. YOU can be the salve to someone’s soul. THANK YOU."

Our Warm Line is here for parents who may be experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, birth trauma, grief, overwhelming stress, relationship issues, or other perinatal mental health and/or emotional challenges. When things feel heavy, confusing, or isolating, you do not have to navigate it alone.

Our Warm Line offers compassionate, judgment-free support from people who truly understand. These are people who have been in the thick of the struggles themselves and are now on the other side, ready to listen, provide encouragement, share resources, and help connect families to the care they deserve.

Whether you need wellness support, help finding a provider or support group, or simply a listening ear from someone who understands what you’re going through, we walk alongside you every step of the way.
