We’ve made it to Fall and to workshop season, y’all! Join us on Sunday, October 18th for the first workshop in our Get Ready, Stay Ready Series: Go Bags! We (like a lot of folks) have emergency preparedness on the mind, and want to create a space for us to collectively talk about how we prepare for emergency situations without getting stuck in panic or lack of reliable info. This workshop will focus on making go bags and shelter-in-place bags that can help you be ready in case of emergency. We’ll go over what to include in a go bag, share some supplies for getting your go bag together, and talk about what collective wisdom we can reference in times of criss to support ourselves and our communities. Please RSVP by 10/11 so we can get a head count for food and supplies! See y’all there 🎒

As we wrap up our 7th summer of the Alphabet Institute and folks move in to their mentorship relationships and turn toward the slightly-slower season of fall we are excited to announce that our Co-Director, Karissa is taking a sabbatical! Here’s what they have to say about it:

I am so grateful and humbled to have gotten this opportunity to slow down and reconnect with myself, my ancestors, and land from Ile Kimoyo. It feels hard to step away from the work at this time, but I know it is vital for me to return more present, grounded, nourished, and rested ~ for myself and for community. I hope that everyone is able to access at least a little of this during the fall season, and am excited to return to y’all in 2027!

Bri and the Core Team will be continuing to lead AAoC through this season, alongside Niña (our MSW Practicum student). Core Team members Ali and Sophia will be stepping forward to offer some interim support, and you can read more about them in the post. Look forward to our workshop announcements and other fall offerings!

Come out to QTBIPOC Co-Working at Cocoa Legato and enjoy some yummy vegan chocolate at this q***r and Latinx owned-spot! Bring whatever you are working on, build some community, and enjoy the handpicked local music pairings that acompany each chocolate bar. Bonus points if you bring your ballot to get it in before the 8pm deadline!

Join Guy Oron on July 28th 6-7:30 for a Policy Practice Space on the upcoming August primaries and how QTBIPOC+ communities are engaging in local and state politics. We’ll talk about questions such as:
- Who is running for office, and what are their platforms?
- What are the benefits and limitations of electoralism for communities that have been historically excluded from the political system?
- How can local and state elected officials resist the federal government’s reactionary policies? In what ways have they become complicit?
- What is the relationship between electoral politics and grassroots social movements?
- How can I be an informed and engaged voter to maximize my power?

While we will definitely be missing Jasmine, we are really excited to welcome our new MSW Practicum student - Niña Poliquit! Niña comes to us with a disability lens, non-heirarchical organizational experience, and is working to offer somatic support to QTBIPOC in this region. They’ll be starting this summer supporting the Alphabet Institute and our other programming. Please give her a warm welcome as she gets to know the AAoC community!

In truly the blink of an eye, summer has arrived ☀️. Check out some highlights of what we spent Spring doin before we head into some more heat!

🏞️ traveling to Spokane for Constellations 2026 w/ Inatai Foundation
🥘 ate dinner with the hilarious and incomprable AAoC founder - thee Luzviminda Lulu Carpenter
🌺 packed up hibiscus and cleavers for our march general meeting participants
🎓 kicking it with the juniors and seniors at the school of social work and chatted bout aaoc, mutual aid, and grad being around the corner!
🏫 had a hoot with the youth at Kimball Elementary’s pride celebration
🪏 joined Tubman Health for their soil turning ceremony for their future Tubman Health Center location!
🤝🏽 chatted bout mutual aid and learned from the panelists at the Growing Solidarity panel (hosted by Delta // Communities Rise)
🏊🏽 got our swim on with the wonderful folks at Oshun Swim School
✊🏽 pulled up on Eastside For All’s Juneteenth celebration last weekend

Everybody say congrats to Jasmine!!! As of this week, our illustrious intern Jasmine (also lovingly known as Yasmeena) has graduated with her Masters in Social Work 🎓 We are so proud of her and beyond grateful for all of the deep care and support she’s given to AAoC during her time as our social work student intern. While Jasmine’s time as our intern is coming to a close, we have no doubt that she’s off to continue transforming the world around her for the better, AND off to some well deserved fun and rest. We’re excited to see what you’re up to next, Yasmeeni 💕
