Thank you to everyone who joined us for Voices in Community.

The evening was a powerful reminder of what makes our communities strong: stories, connection, leadership, and the willingness to show up for one another. Together, we celebrated the launch of the Literacy Room at The Maddux, heard meaningful stories from residents, honored community leaders and partners, and reflected on the importance of creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and connected.

We are deeply grateful to the residents, partners, volunteers, staff, and supporters who helped make the evening possible and continue investing in the future of our communities.

This work is powered by community, and we are grateful to be building it together.

Neighbor to Neighbor is about expanding opportunity across generations. At Mt. Baker Village that looks like helping seniors feel confident, connected, and supported in an increasingly digital world.

For the past several months, in partnership with Sambath and the Cambodian American Community Council of Washington, we have been hosting Technology as a Third Language (TLL). TLL is a culturally responsive digital literacy program designed for limited-English-speaking seniors. Through weekly workshops, residents have been building confidence using tablets, translation apps, and AI tools to navigate everyday communication, healthcare access, and online resources.

More than technology training, TTL creates space for connection, independence, and inclusion, helping ensure that language and technology barriers do not prevent residents from accessing the tools and services they need.

Strong communities require long-term investment.

Neighbor to Neighbor helps sustain the programs, spaces, and relationships that support residents year-round. Programming ranges from youth tutoring and literacy support to community gardening workshops, cooking classes, storytelling programs, and resident-led gatherings.

These programs do more than fill a calendar. They create opportunities for neighbors to connect, youth to build confidence, seniors to access resources, and families to feel rooted in community.

Monthly support creates stability not just for buildings, but for people. It helps strengthen the everyday experiences that turn housing into home and neighbors into community.

We are proud to celebrate a major milestone for Mt. Baker Housing.

Within the last month, both The Maddux and Tahoma Valley have officially transitioned from construction financing to permanent financing, marking a significant step forward in the long-term stability and sustainability of these communities.

Together, these properties provide 409 affordable homes in Southeast Seattle and represent years of planning, partnership, and commitment to creating housing built to last.

While this transition largely happens behind the scenes, its impact is meaningful. Permanent financing positions these communities for long-term stewardship, operational stability, and continued investment in the residents and families who call them home.

We are so grateful to the many partners, funders, and staff who worked tirelessly to make this moment possible.

Neighbor to Neighbor is rooted in a simple belief: strong communities are built together.

This new initiative connects residents, neighbors, and community partners in shared investment toward the long-term strength of our communities, supporting youth programs, resident engagement, community events, and opportunities that help families thrive.

Because housing is more than buildings. It’s belonging, opportunity, and connection.

This month, we’re excited to share more about the people, programs, and partnerships that make this work possible.

Last week, the Mt. Baker Housing team spent the day volunteering with Sound Foundations NW at the Hope Factory.

Together, staff worked alongside a crew of other volunteers to help build a tiny home that will provide shelter and stability for one of our neighbors transitioning out of homelessness. The day was a meaningful opportunity to step outside of our daily work, serve alongside one another, and contribute to a broader network of community care working toward housing stability for all.

At Mt. Baker Housing, we believe strong communities are built through partnership, service, and shared responsibility. We are grateful to Sound Foundations NW for the opportunity to contribute to work that is creating dignity, stability, and hope throughout our region.
