We already have this in Washington state. Now it’s time to get it nationwide. Read the Nurse.org article at https://nurse.org/news/federal-bill-nurse-mandatory-overtime/

Hospitals could no longer force nurses to work past their shift under a new bipartisan federal bill.

The Nurse Overtime and Patient Safety Act would cap mandatory hours at 48 per week and 12 consecutive, require 10 hours of rest after a 12-hour shift, and fine facilities up to $10,000 per violation. It also protects nurses who refuse from being fired or reported to their state board.

Right now only 18 states limit mandatory overtime. If you work in one of the other 32, your only protection is your contract or your employer's policy.
