The reality: Community violence in Seattle, particularly gun violence, is deeply rooted in disinvestment, systemic racism, and social isolation. These issues don’t impact all neighborhoods equally. In 2024, while Black residents made up just 7% of King County’s population, they represented over 45% of shooting victims. Nearly 60% of all shootings occurred in the Central District and South Seattle, including Skyway—areas Urban Family proudly calls home. The pain is concentrated, and so is our mission. We don’t just observe these realities; we live them. Our team brings lived experience from the very zip codes where harm persists, and our work starts right at the point of crisis, addressing root causes head-on. 🖤
