Pilgrim Africa Pilgrim Africa works to create a future of sustainable prosperity in Uganda through initiatives in P Instead, hope is the work itself.

To an African family faced with a gauntlet of dangers to overcome--malaria, war, famine--hope is tangible, vital. Despair, on a field of active hazards with the material odds stacked against you, is tantamount to death. Hope is that real reservoir of strength that the African family must draw upon to outwit multiple horrors. As an indigenous, Christian organization working in Public Health and Edu

cation with policy makers in the capital and rural villages throughout Uganda, it is not that we believe that our work "brings" hope.

Last week, together with a team from Children Voices Against Malaria (CVAMU), we spent time at Siirt Islamic Primary School, in Soroti district, one of the schools that received Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) support.

This is a special school that fully supports orphaned children, and it was important for us to visit—both to see the impact firsthand and to hear directly from the school community about how the intervention is helping keep children protected from malaria.

We also planted a signpost together with the school as a simple gesture of appreciation to Children Voices Against Malaria and shared commitment to protecting the children.

We thank Children’s Voices Against Malaria Uganda (CVAMU) for standing with us in the effort to protect children from malaria.

Together, we visited the Malaria Club at Soroti Municipal Secondary School, where the children shared encouraging progress from their activities. The club reported a decline in malaria cases among students, continued hang-up of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) in dormitories, and the successful completion of several peer-led awareness initiatives within the school.

One of the most impressive milestones is the growth of the club’s membership to 85 students, reflecting strong interest from learners and active support from the school leadership in sustaining the initiative.

The school’s head teacher, Mr. Mbwoizi Rogers, appreciated the support from Pilgrim Africa and CVAMU in protecting both learners and staff from malaria. He also noted that healthier students continue to support the school’s strong academic performance in the region, including the recently released UACE results.

We also commend CVAMU for supporting the Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) program and for their continued commitment to this partnership as we work together to protect more children and strengthen malaria prevention in schools

This morning, our field office welcomed a courtesy visit from the Fosun Pharma team.

It was a good moment for the teams to connect in person, reflect on the progress being made through the IPTsc program, and appreciate the partnership supporting efforts to protect learners from malaria in schools.

Tomorrow, our team will join them for the Soroti City and District malaria training on enhancing malaria management. The training will focus on:

1. Sharing the latest WHO malaria guidelines
2. Strengthening malaria diagnosis and treatment
3. Improving case management practices
4. Discussing monitoring and evaluation strategies

Introducing the Malaria Club Committee at Teso Boarding Primary School.

Following strong interest from students to take an active role in malaria prevention, the school has formally established a Malaria Club to champion awareness and peer engagement.

The newly elected committee will lead fellow students in promoting malaria prevention practices and supporting school-wide efforts to keep learners healthy and in class. Pilgrim Africa and partners will support the club’s activities as part of strengthening school-led social and behavior change communication (SBCC).
