It's early fruit season, and we need your help! 🍎 🫐

The new spring apples at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands need some care in order to develop into large, juicy apples this fall! This Friday, June 5th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. we will be thinning trees and bagging tiny apples to protect them from pests and other critters as they grow, in partnership with City Fruit!

Have you heard of CROPS - the Culturally Relevant Organic Plant Starts program?

Read all about Tilth Alliance's CROPS program in a recent feature by Sound Consumer from PCC Community Markets: https://buff.ly/JhVMs3n

The CROPS program sources seeds and grows plant starts that are hard to find or expensive in in the United States but are staple foods in the home countries of Seattle's immigrant and refugee communities. These plant starts, such as bitter melon, amaranth, Asian long beans, ashwaganda, and specialty varieties of eggplant, pepper, corn, and more, are distributed to local community groups for free.

Growing many of these specialty crops requires a little experimentation, some specialized knowledge, and plenty of extra love!

On Saturday, May 30, we're teaming up with Tito's Love, Tito's Block to Block program to plant flowers, prep spring beds and tackle essential farm tasks — plus share a community lunch together at noon!

Come pick some free fresh veggies at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands; U-Pick areas #1 and #2 are ready for harvest! 🫛 🥬 🥕 🍅

Beds ready for harvest are marked with green posts. Visitors are welcome to harvest, weigh, and record produce regularly at our designated U-Pick areas. Be sure to check the kiosk chalkboard for updates on what’s ready to pick!

Our guiding principles are: share the bounty, mind your step, and stay safe! We’d love your help sharing this produce and reducing food waste! Right now, we have plenty of lettuce, kale, tongho, and other greens. 🥬 🥬 🥬
