Our team recently returned from the 2026 Grantmakers for Effective Organizations conference in Boston, where more than 1,000 philanthropic leaders gathered to learn, connect and imagine what's possible for our sector.

Throughout the conference, we explored topics ranging from community voice and board governance to AI, risk management and leading with love. We were also honored to present two sessions highlighting our work. One on protecting the EPA Thriving Communities Grant and another on advancing Equity-Centered Strategy.

A common thread throughout the week was the importance of relationships and trust. As former PNW Board Chair Nicole Maher shared, "Listening is forever work."

We're grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside peers from across the country and look forward to bringing these insights back to our network.

Alaska leaders, there is still time to apply!

Know an Alaska nonprofit leader or Tribal administrator who could use a chance to rest and recharge? Share our Sabbatical Awards with them.

For more than 20 years, the Sabbatical Awards has supported the rest and renewal of Alaska leaders. The award includes a $50,000 grant to help organizations cover interim staffing, salary, travel, and other costs during the sabbatical period.

Organizations also have access to technical assistance through The Foraker Group or Alaska Tribal Administrators Association before and during the sabbatical.

Applications for 2027 sabbaticals close June 16, 2026.

Your participation shapes insights on salaries, governance, grantmaking and investments used by foundations across the country.

If your foundation can spare about 60 minutes, please take the survey by June 19, 2026: https://ow.ly/aBZ450Z6V4Y
