The Friends of the Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization.

The Friends support the Seattle Public Library through advocacy and program grants. The Friends raise money for program grants through memberships and by sponsoring book sales and other fundraising events. The Friends help finance programs and projects such as the Summer Reading program and Homework Help that the Library otherwise could not afford. We also represent the interests of patrons and provide a voice for their concerns and needs, serving as an important link between the Library and the public.

The Friends' third and final pop-up of the year -Green Mansion is right around the corner! We're thrilled to partner with SGM and Washington Trust for Historic Preservation or the venue's Thursday night event series, and to join our friends Haunted Burrow Books again as co-vendor.

Shop literary merch and select books, wander the gorgeous/haunted (?!?) building, enjoy a cash bar and live piano music, and catch up on reading.

We’re midway through Banned Books Week, when—just like every week—the Friends affirm our collective freedom to read whatever the heck we want.

To celebrate the power of reading for 2026 Banned Books Week, The Seattle Public Library is hosting a series of letterpress workshops with Partners in Print at various branches. Come make art that expresses your freedom to read! Find the details at the link in our bio.

We love when book shoppers with unique needs visit the Friends!

Recently, florist Fortunate Orchard sourced hundreds of vintage books from the Georgetown Bookskop to be part of a stunning tablescape at UW’s Recognition Gala. The venue? Suzzallo Library—how perfect.

Big news, book lovers! The Friends’ Georgetown Bookshop is extending hours on Thursdays from 10am–3pm to 10am–5pm.

That’s two more hours to browse a hidden gem in one of Seattle’s most historic neighborhoods. Most gently used books are $1–4.

Are you a Great British Bake Off fan? The beloved and cozy show began in the UK on Tuesday and the first episode will be available on US Netflix this Friday.

If you swing by the FriendShop soon you might be able to snag the “The Story of the Great British Bake Off” that landed on our shelf. Both our locations have extensive cookbook sections, too, offering high quality titles for your kitchen at a small fraction of their original prices.

Get connected, get inspired, and get reading with the Friends!

On October 1, 3–5 PM, visit our Georgetown Bookshop for a bookish scavenger hunt and shopping and our Workshop down the block for silent reading.

This is just one of 100+ events part of the Seattle Chamber of Connection's Welcome Week, which runs 9/26–10/4.

10/1 is also the inaugural day of our Bookshop's Thursday hours extending to 5 PM! Two more hours to browse in the cozy shop.
