Come on, Friends! Vote for our library!

Come on, Friends! Vote for our library!

tl;dr-- Vote for Scarborough Public Library here: https://www.tcfcu.com/better-neighbor-fund-voting/

We’re excited to share that the Scarborough Public Library has been selected as one of 20 local nonprofits competing for funding through Town & Country Federal Credit Union Maine’s 2026 Better Neighbor Fund!

$33,000 will go to eight nonprofit organizations with amounts determined by public voting. Top award is $5000. We’d love your help getting Scarborough Public Library to the finish line. Voting begins October 1 and continues through October 31. (…and you can vote once every day to help improve our chances.) https://www.tcfcu.com/better-neighbor-fund-voting/

Any award we receive will go to support our services, programs, and resources for the community that make the library a vital part of life in Scarborough. Please share the opportunity with your friends, family, and neighbors if you think they would like to help.

Thank you for supporting your Library and for helping us continue to serve the Scarborough community!

Budgets for many of our neighbors are more and more pinched by energy and food prices - if you have extra to spare, please consider stopping by our food drive at the library on Saturday, October 17th (9-noon), same place and time as the Friends of Scarborough Library book donation drive. Thank you!

These are the final book donation drives before a break for winter. Our beloved library staff has been recently burdened with people dropping donations in the return slot. Please stick to these donation drives! Also, stay tuned for more info, because our friends at will be collecting goods beside us at some book drives.

Hey, that's Friends board member and professional volunteer, George Mageles! Well deserved recognition, George.

Meet George Mageles — a familiar face helping shape the future of Pine Point. 🌊

When the Pine Point Association was formed in 2024, its goal was straightforward: bring residents, business owners, and neighbors together to advocate for the community and work with the Town of Scarborough on issues affecting Pine Point.

George Mageles, a longtime summer resident who later became a year-round member of the Scarborough community, was named the association’s first president. He helped guide the new organization as it began tackling concerns ranging from traffic and parking to beach conditions, public safety, and neighborhood improvements.

That first year included meetings with local and state officials, the formation of committees focused on everything from beautification to communication, and efforts to build a stronger connection between Pine Point residents and the Town.

George is still active in the Pine Point Association today, serving as president on its 2026 leadership team.

From the Scarborough Living archives, take a look back at the beginnings of the Pine Point Association—and the people working to keep this special corner of Scarborough connected and thriving.

It's that time of year again! We love to have new people join our library community!

Board Game Night is back, with a little rebranding! So many people loved our potluck versions (remember Mac & Cheese night or Thanksgiving side-dishes? So fun.) AND so many people bring a snack to share anyway, AND so many people love our other food related programs, that Deanna & Elsa decided to combine all the love in one spectacular event each month! Come for the food and community, come for the board games, but either way be prepared to chat with someone new! Let's mix and mingle, folks! This event is where new friendships are made!

You can drop in whenever you like! No registration required. If you'd like emailed reminders, sign up here: https://scarboroughlibrary.libcal.com/event/16960799

What the Friends board does:
- Organize and run the annual book sale, plus the donation drives that fill the shed
- Participate in events where we would be a fitting (and fun!) presence, in collaboration with library staff
- Recruit lecturers for the Emerson Lecture Series
- Meet regularly to discuss our business--budget, event planning, library needs, etc. See below for meeting cadence.
- Keep in close contact with library leadership
- Write the library a nice juicy check for summer reading, the annual gift, and other programming

Time commitment:
- We meet once a month-ish. We skip 2-4 months per year, totaling about 8-10 meetings per year.
- We run the book sale, which is a long weekend, and hold monthly donation drives in the warm months. But we do it all in shifts so no one does everything.
- Attend Emerson Lectures and other Friends-sponsored events.
