We are just over 24 hours away from our Scarborough Fire Department Open House! We can’t wait to see you tomorrow: 5:00 - 7:30P. Come visit with our public safety team, tour our fire and EMS apparatus, visit with numerous outside agencies and enjoy free hotdogs, chips, cup cakes and more.

Frost on the pumpkins last night and fall colors remind us it's time to be preparing for the winter ahead. We'll be at the library on Saturday, November 14th (9-12) with weatherization tips and DIY samples. Look for our pop-up tent alongside the Friends of the Scarborough Library's book donation drive. (Bring a book or two for our library friends!)

We’re excited to share that the Scarborough Public Library has been selected as one of 20 local nonprofits competing for funding through Town & Country Federal Credit Union Maine’s 2026 Better Neighbor Fund!

$33,000 will go to eight nonprofit organizations with amounts determined by public voting. Top award is $5000. We’d love your help getting Scarborough Public Library to the finish line. We would like to thank our generous community for the donations of school supplies and backpacks and snacks to help kids start the new school year ready to succeed! We also extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to the friends and family of Ken and Martha Lloyd and the Piper Shores community for their generous gifts in honor of Martha, a treasured friend, and longtime Project GRACE volunteer who helped start our school supplies drive more than twenty years ago. She will be dearly missed by us and all who loved her, and we are very honored to have received so many gifts in her memory. There were enough extra supplies to share with all six Scarborough schools, Ketcha Outdoors, and other friends.

This Sunday the Scarborough Garden Club will be at the Scarborough Farmers Market!! Stop by the market to enjoy fresh, local vegetables and fruits, hand-crafted items, and sample artisan foods and coffee. The market is open Sundays, 9:00 to 1:00, June through October, and is located in the parking lot at Town Hall, 259 US Route 1. This initiative is a collaboration between the Scarborough Farmers' Market, Scarborough Public Library, and Project GRACE to showcase local community groups.

Deadline Approaching: Senior Property Tax Assistance

The Senior Property Tax Assistance Program applications are due by October 15th. The program is one of multiple forms of tax relief that Town of Scarborough has for residents looking for assistance with their property taxes. If your annual property tax burden exceeds 5% of household Adjusted Gross Income, you may be eligible for a return of up to $1,200 at the end of the year. For residents who rent, including owners of properties within a Manufactured Home Park, rent paid is considered part of your property tax burden.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Applicant is age 62 or older as of the application deadline

2. Applicant has been a Scarborough resident for at least 10 consecutive years as of October 15, 2026

3. Federal Adjusted Gross Income (household) does not exceed $60,000

Applications for the Property Tax Assistance Program are available online or in the Assessing Office. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2026.

When you submit your application, we will need to see identification and proof of income, either in the form of your 2025 Tax Return or your 2025 Year-End Social Security Benefit Statement, if you don’t file taxes. If you rent, we will also need a statement of rent paid between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026.
