Today SEF helped kick off the new school year alongside the incredible staff at Scarborough Public Schools, and it was so good to see so many old friends and new faces.

We loved the walk-on songs for the leadership teams, celebrated some pretty amazing work anniversaries, and, most importantly, were reminded of the incredible impact we all have.

One of the biggest themes of the morning was that we may never fully realize the difference we make in someone’s life. A kind word, a moment of encouragement, a teacher who believed in you, or someone who simply showed up when you needed them can stay with us for years. We all have the ability to be someone’s hero, create meaningful change, and lift others up.

So, we want to hear from you: Who was a Scarborough teacher, coach, mentor, or school staff member who made a difference in your life?

Hello Friends! SEF is looking for new board members!

After everything our schools and community have navigated this spring, including the recent budget discussions, supporting our schools has never felt more important.

Several of our current SEF board members are reaching the end of their terms, and we need a few new people to help keep the Foundation moving forward.

The commitment is manageable: one meeting a month on the second Tuesday, plus a few fundraising activities throughout the year. Our mission is simple: provide additional support to Scarborough educators and students through grants and community support.

If you care about our schools and would like to get more involved, we’d love to have you! Know someone who might be a great fit? Please share this with them.

This isn't a typical Scarborough Education Foundation post, but we wanted to take a moment to give a special shout-out to our Vice President, Colleen Totten Amann for her incredible fundraising efforts for Tri for a Cure.

Her dedication to such an important cause is inspiring, and we're proud to recognize the impact she's making in our community.

Congratulations, Colleen, and best of luck in the race this Sunday. Your friends at SEF will be cheering you on!

As another school year gets ready to come to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supports the Scarborough Education Foundation.

From Burr Signs for generously donating our senior yard signs, to the school administrators and staff who help us spread the word, to every volunteer who gives their time and energy throughout the year - we simply could not do this without you.

We are especially grateful for the countless community members who support our fundraisers, attend our events, and believe in our mission.

One of the things we love most is that so many of our favorite traditions not only bring our community together, but also help support our students, educators, and schools. Thank you for helping us make a difference, year after year.

We couldn't do it without you.

Graduation represents years of hard work, growth, and perseverance. Along the way, you've built friendships, created memories, and learned lessons that will stay with you far beyond today.

A few years ago, SEF used to have so many volunteers for Senior Messages + Balloon Delivery that we actually had to turn people away. 🎈This year, we’re begging our friends for help.

Next Saturday, May 30, volunteers will be delivering balloons and personal messages all over Scarborough to help celebrate the Class of 2026. It’s such a simple thing, but it means so much to our seniors and their families.

Right now, we don’t have enough volunteers to make it happen smoothly and we would truly appreciate the community stepping up.

If you have a couple hours to spare, we’d love your help driving around town delivering smiles to our seniors. Whether you can take a few deliveries or a whole route, every single volunteer matters.

Let’s show the Class of 2026 how much this community cares. 🎓

Hello Friends!! We're currently organizing senior messages + balloon orders and trying very hard not to cry into the spreadsheets. 🎈

Not every kid sends a message to their friends… but the ones who do? Oh my goodness. The sweet, funny, heartfelt things they say to one another absolutely send us over the edge every single time.

Some of you did not follow directions and we have questions 😂 — we’ll be reaching out later this morning to sort a few things out.

But truly, the love, encouragement, pride, and friendship packed into those message boxes make every ounce of time, energy, and chaos worth it. Thank you for supporting SEF’s annual fundraiser. ❤️
