SCAD SERVE SCAD SERVE empowers the SCAD community to make meaningful contributions through intentional initiatives that improve quality of life for our communities.

Who We Are

SCAD SERVE brings together the SCAD community to listen to the needs of its neighbors and local leaders, and to envision meaningful design solutions that improve quality of life. Through active engagement and volunteerism in the university’s hometowns of Atlanta and Savannah, SCAD SERVE seeks to make a positive impact on four critical areas of need: food, shelter, clothing, and environment.

This summer, SCAD SERVE’s Design for Good collaboration brought together SCAD students and the Atlanta History Center to explore the connections between fashion, history, and contemporary design. Drawing inspiration from historic textiles and garments in the Center’s collection, students conducted archival research and transformed historical techniques, materials, and stories into original sketches, material explorations, and realized designs.

We’re proud of the students who brought their research, craftsmanship, and creativity to this meaningful collaboration and showed how design can help preserve, reinterpret, and share stories from the past. 🧵👗

SCAD SERVE is honored to be recognized during the SCCPSS Community Partner Spotlight! During last week’s Board of Education meeting, Kurt Hetager, Chief Public Affairs and Administrative Services Officer, highlighted SCAD SERVE’s annual SCCPSS art teacher shopping event, an initiative that helps provide local art teachers with classroom resources and supplies. We are grateful for this partnership and proud to support the incredible educators who inspire the next generation of creative thinkers every day! 🍎📚

The 2026 SCCPSS Art Teacher Shopping Event was all about supporting the educators who inspire the next generation of artists, thinkers, and creators. Designed to help fill gaps in school budgets, this annual event puts much-needed gently used and new art supplies and creative tools directly into the hands of local teachers—ensuring more students have the resources to learn, imagine, and create.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, and educator who helped make this day possible.

Together, we’re investing in our schools, empowering teachers, and making a lasting impact in our community. Have a wonderful school year! 🎨📚💛

A new chapter of hope has opened in Savannah. SCAD is proud to celebrate the opening of the Union Mission Emmaus House Resource Center — a transformative space designed to provide critical support, stability, and resources for individuals and families in our community.

SCAD played a key role in shaping the facility itself. Through SCAD SERVE’s Design for Good program, a team of students led by Prof. Scott Horner collaborated to develop both interior and exterior concepts rooted in trauma-informed design principles. Their work focused on creating a welcoming, accessible, and restorative environment — recognizing the importance of spaces that foster dignity, comfort, and healing for those accessing services. This resource center represents what’s possible when community partnerships and service come together to meet real needs — offering access to housing support, case management, and essential services for those working toward stability.

The SCAD SERVE Community Fund provided $372,000 to this important project, reinforcing our commitment to creating meaningful, lasting impact in Savannah.

We’re honored to stand alongside Union Mission in helping create a space where hope, support, and opportunity can thrive.

This past Saturday, SCAD SERVE volunteers helped visitors of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center complete a fun scavenger hunt throughout the trail! ✨🐊

With tasks like learning about hogs Ramone and Fernando and finding flowers at the Pollination Station, participants got to experience an educational opportunity in an exciting environment! The passport was designed by one of our own, SCAD SERVE Fellow Joli Reyes. 💚
