Our first Alumni Gathering at Warrior Spirit Ranch! 🇺🇸

The OWR veterans have been asking for more opportunities to come together and stay connected after their retreats, so it was incredibly special to welcome them back, feed them delicous food, and create this community building experience at our ranch.

“I no longer feel powerless.”

Those words came from a veteran after completing a Brain-Based Healing with Joy Moody.

Before the session, they described living in constant fight-or-flight, poor sleep, racing thoughts, triggers taking over, and feeling emotionally shut down. After working with Joy, they shared:

“My sleep is better, I feel more present during the day, and I’m not constantly bracing for the next trigger. I still have hard moments, but they don’t control my entire day anymore.”

And the best part, “This was not just a session, it was a turning point in how I understand and approach my own healing. Joy gave me clarity, empowerment, and a renewed belief that recovery is possible.”

And THAT is why we’re so grateful to celebrate Joy’s one-year anniversary as a Brain-Based Healing Practitioner with OWR! 🇺🇸

Joy first came to OWR to work an occasional retreat, and then officially joined our team one year ago. Since then, she has brought her compassion, clinical experience, and genuine commitment to helping veterans find another path toward healing.

Joy, thank you for the lives you are impacting and for being such an important part of this mission. Happy one-year OWR anniversary! 🙌🇺🇸

A big thank you to the Kevin Popke Foundation for their generous $10,000 donation in support of OWR’s veteran mental health programs!

We loved welcoming the Foundation and their children for a visit to our ranch. They enjoyed seeing our healing programs in action, meeting our bees, exploring the property, and, of course, enjoying some great snacks! It was especially meaningful to have the kids out because their gift will directly support our children and family services.

We are incredibly grateful for the Kevin Popke Foundation’s continued support in our mission. Thank you for helping us heal veterans, strengthen their families, and create life-changing experiences here at Warrior Spirit Ranch 🇺🇸

One year ago today, OWR became the owner of Warrior Spirit Ranch! 🇺🇸🎉

From the beginning, our vision was to reimagine how mental health services are delivered. We knew that healing doesn’t have to happen within the walls of a traditional clinical setting. Warrior Spirit Ranch was intentionally created to provide a peaceful, welcoming environment where veterans can step away from crisis, reconnect with themselves and others, and experience the sense of belonging that is so often missed after military service.

Just yesterday, a veteran was sent directly to us by the VA to help prevent a Baker Act. As soon as he arrived, he shared that he immediately felt calm. Before a single service had been provided, the environment itself had already begun to make a difference.

This milestone is even more meaningful because we recently received official confirmation from Manatee County that we can move forward with the next phase of developing Warrior Spirit Ranch. In the months ahead, we’ll be expanding this vision into an even more unique destination for veteran healing, community, and connection. We look forward to sharing several exciting initiatives as they come to life!

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us get here, especially Charles and Margery Barancik and the entire Barancik Foundation. Without your belief in our mission, none of this would have been possible.

What was once on paper as part of a strategic plan is today changing lives. And the best is yet to come! 🇺🇸

Our Founder and CEO, Kendra Simpkins Walsh, joins Michael Corley, a leading nonprofit consultant for an insightful discussion about mission, but also what nonprofit boards and CEOs can learn through growth, fundraising, governance, and crisis.

A few lessons that stood out:

1. Fundraising gets easier when you stop treating it like a transaction.
2. Data matters when your work is hard to explain.
3. Boards are most helpful when they bring expertise without stepping into operations.
4. Founders have to grow with the organization.
5. Crisis leadership starts before the crisis arrives.

🦆 A beautiful visitor at OWR Ranch!

Nature always has something to surprise us. This colorful bird is a Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, one of Florida’s most distinctive native ducks. With its bright coral bill, long pink legs, and chestnut coloring, it’s hard to miss!

Unlike many ducks, these birds love to perch on fences and even tree branches, and instead of quacking, they communicate with a clear whistling call.

We’re grateful to share OWR Ranch with such incredible wildlife. Keep your eyes open the next time you’re exploring the property—you never know who might be watching from a fence post! 🌿🦆
