Thatโ€™s a wrap on the 2026 Livability Speaker Series. ๐Ÿ”‘

Thank you to everyone who joined us at SITE SANTA FE for Room to Grow, Room to Stay with Ned Resnikoff and to every neighbor who showed up across all four conversations this year.

Ned reminded us that the pressures facing our cities didnโ€™t happen by accident, which means they arenโ€™t permanent either. The housing we build, the streets we design, the decisions we make locally โ€” those are choices and choices can change.

The conversation doesnโ€™t end here. Santa Fe is writing its own version of this story, and it takes all of us.

See you in 2027. ๐Ÿงก

Congratulations to Leah and Tim, Homewiseโ€™s newest homeowners! ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ”‘

Leah started working with us in October 2025. With help from her Homeownership Advisor, Maria, and her loan officer, Louisa, she worked steadily to strengthen her finances and pay down her student loans. When the time was right, Leah and Tim decided to apply together. Tim also joined our Credit Savings Building Program to help them reach their goal.

Leah and Tim were living out of town for the whole process, but they still traveled in during the week to look for the right home. That commitment paid off. Today theyโ€™re proud first-time homeowners!

Leah and Tim, we wish you many happy years in your forever home. ๐Ÿงก

Straight from Ned himself. ๐ŸŽฅ Ned Resnikoff โ€” author, advocate, and journalist โ€” is coming to Santa Fe for the final Livability Speaker Series event of the year, and he's giving us a preview of what he'll cover.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Free, ticketed event

Rising costs. Neighbors priced out. A city getting harder to afford. None of it happened by accident and none of it is permanent. Ned will walk us through how we got here and what's already working in cities making room for everyone.

Free and ticketed, and we expect it to sell out. Childcare and interpretation provided. ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ

3๏ธโƒฃ Comment and tag the person you'd bring

Entries close Tuesday, Sept 29. Winners announced by DM.

Lifting families is sort of our whole thing. Usually that looks like a mortgage someone was told they'd never qualify for. This week it looks like five hundred balloons over a Monday morning. We're glad to help with both. ๐Ÿงก

What a morning. ๐Ÿ”‘

Last week we cut the ribbon on Sombra del Oeste โ€” 72 all-electric townhomes in Albuquerque's South Valley, and our second Homewise Homesยฎ community in the city. Thank you to everyone who showed up to celebrate what's possible when a community builds together.

Our deepest thanks to the voices who joined us:
๐Ÿ’ฌ Johanna Gilligan, President of Homewise
๐Ÿ’ฌ Sarita Nair, Cabinet Secretary, NM Department of Workforce Solutions
๐Ÿ’ฌ Cindy Chavez, Bernalillo County Manager
๐Ÿ’ฌ Robyn Powell, Director of Policy and Planning, Housing New Mexico
๐Ÿ’ฌ Jordan Franco, Business Banking Relationship Manager, U.S. Bank
๐Ÿ’ฌ Estella Gamboa, Homewise homeowner โ€” whose story reminded us all exactly why this work matters

And a huge thank you to BIG 98.5 for broadcasting live with us, Gilbert Uribe Music for filling the morning with sound, and the Street Food Institute for the incredible cooking demos. You made it feel like a celebration.

Sombra del Oeste is more than 72 homes. It's 72 families putting down roots. ๐Ÿก

Every state in the Southwest has passed housing reform legislation in recent years, except New Mexico.

That's one finding from a new policy brief our team co-authored with the Mercatus Center, based on 20+ interviews with builders, planners, land use attorneys, and elected officials across the state. New Mexico is short at least 58,000 homes, and a lot of what's holding them back isn't land or money - it's process.

This week Homewise President Johanna Gilligan and Senior Director of Policy & Advocacy Veronica Toledo took those findings to KRQE News 13.

๐Ÿ”‘ Join us as we cut the ribbon on Sombra del Oeste!

On Thursday, September 10, Cabinet Secretary Sarita Nair and County Manager Cindy Chavez will help us open our second Homewise Homesยฎ community in Albuquerque, 72 thoughtfully designed townhomes with 2- and 3-bedroom layouts and all-electric construction.

After the ceremony, stay to tour the model homes, enjoy cooking demonstrations from the Street Food Institute, and see the energy-efficient features up close.
