Last week, The Game Thing quietly turned 10 years old. On January 10th, 2011 three of us gathered on short notice to play board games at the Santa Fe Complex. Within the month we were getting more than 20 people together to play. We've averaged closer to 30 per event for the bulk of our tenure. Our largest night saw 52 gathered at Second Street Rufina Taproom sometime in early 2019.

The Pandemic has been hard on all of us, but I'm glad to know that we take a little bit of each other into the battle. Time spent teaching and learning, or just laughing at each other's jokes are armor we have against the isolation.

A relatively small contingency of us still gather every Monday on the Santa Fe Gamers Discord channel to play board games together online. Feel free to jump in and say hi. I'm sure you'll recognize some of the voices.

Hi all, just a quick heads up to remind everyone that there will be a band playing tonight at Rufina Taproom. Generally, a whole wave of games get played before they start their sound check around 8:30. By 9:00, it is usually too loud to play most games and we should try to be wrapped up by then. TONIGHT! D&D@TGT
Jack Graham has offered to run 5th edition D&D for us while he's here in town. First come basis for up to 6 adventures. Description below.

SELLSWORDS! is a 9-week D&D 5e campaign with a weird, swords & sorcery feel that will run at The Game Thing on Monday nights from January through March. Come play some casual D&D. Stay in for one fight and then play another game, or hang out all night. Pre-generated characters will be provided. Bring pencils and dice if you have them; we'll have everything else. We'll begin the adventure on Monday, 1/21, with the first game: War of the Mummy's Purse.

Let's celebrate The Game Thing's 8th birthday tonight at Rufina Taproom! Kristin is making us a birthday cake and it would be lovely to see some faces from the last 8 years of socializing over games in Santa Fe.

Special thanks to everyone who used to run and attend events at the Santa Fe Complex—where Randy, Scott and I gathered on January 10th, 2011 for the very first iteration of The Game Thing. We've added more than 900 members since then and I look forward to seeing you all at the table very soon.

Had a blast play-testing and reviewing Mutants: the card game by Lucky Duck Games on Monday. The Kickstarter goes live in October, so stay tuned for more details and help us play-test it a bunch between now and then so that we can help it be the best version of itself by the time it fulfills!
