Encompass is a nonprofit organization with about 40 programs county-wide providing services in behavioral health, family and social well-being, early childhood education, housing, and more. We touch hundreds of lives in the community each year by providing access to:

Housing
Counseling for individuals, families and youth
Substance use recovery programs
Head Start and Pre-K
Reentry services
Health

and financial services

As the largest community-based nonprofit in the county with a rich history, we know living a healthy life includes access to positive social, economic and educational opportunities. We exist to create pathways toward equity in these areas while serving our neighbors with compassion and dignity.

Last Friday, our Encompass staff participated in the Santa Cruz County Food Insecurity Symposium sponsored by Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz. The symposium featured multiple workshops highlighting food insecurity in relation to health, housing, education and senior living, with community leaders and experts sharing ideas and ways to better serve those in need. Second Harvest identified the need for community collaboration after food assistance was temporarily suspended for nearly 35,000 Santa Cruz County residents due to the federal government shutdown last fall.

Special thanks to Encompass staff Lily, Ricki Lee, Johanna, Aubrey, Sammy, Karen, and Joanna for attending this meaningful event. Great things happen when we come together as a community.

Encompass friends and followers, we need your help to become one of the selected nonprofits for the Envirotokens program at New Leaf Community Markets!

At New Leaf, customers receive a wooden token for bringing reusable bags. Then, they use these tokens in-store to donate to a local nonprofit by placing their token in their selected nonprofit’s bin. Becoming a part of the Environtokens program means that Encompass would receive a donation each month for all customers who contribute their wooden tokens to our bin.

Vote by going to https://www.newleaf.com/community/envirotokens-vote and clicking the button "Encompass Community Services" under the "Other" category. You can vote for Encompass across the 4 locations we serve: Santa Cruz, Westside, Aptos, and Capitola.

Anyone with a valid email address can vote once per day, per email address. Make it part of your daily routine for the next 6 weeks! Share with and encourage friends and family to do the same. Voting ends on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Every vote counts! Thanks for your help!

National Farm Workers Day is celebrated annually on March 31 to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of our agricultural system, the farm workers. They work day and night, crouching on fields under glaring sun, plowing fields, and operating heavy equipment to grow our food year-round. On National Farmworkers Day, we honor the hard work and commitment of all farmworkers, especially those in the Santa Cruz County area.

The National Women’s History Alliance has established this year's theme as "Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future", honoring women who are reimagining and rebuilding systems to ensure long-term sustainability - environmental, economic, educational, and societal. We celebrate the powerful leadership of women in creating a future that is rooted in equity, justice, and opportunity for all. From environmental advocacy to financial reform, women leaders are not only addressing today ’s most urgent challenges - they are laying the foundation for a more resilient and inclusive tomorrow. Special thanks to our all-female Encompass leadership team for the strong example they set every day.
