Halloween has brought plenty of creativity to the Club this month!

Across our sites, members have been getting into the Halloween spirit in more ways than one. From putting their imaginations to work writing their own spooky stories and creating Halloween-inspired arts and crafts to the behind-the-scenes planning that went into this year’s Haunted Jailhouse, there’s been no shortage of ideas!

Our teens took on an especially big challenge this year, working together to transform the Haunted Jailhouse through weeks of planning, creative thinking, teamwork, and leadership. It’s incredible to see what they can accomplish when given the opportunity to take an idea and bring it to life.

We’re proud of our members for the creativity and initiative they bring to the Club, and grateful for the staff who encourage their ideas, guide their projects, and help turn their creativity into something real.

Reflecting today on the incredible impact of Richard Sandnes, an Emeritus member of our Governing Board and a deeply valued part of the Boys & Girls Club family.
Richard’s generosity, leadership, and belief in young people helped shape opportunities that will continue to be felt for generations. He was also our Man of the Year nominee, a recognition that reflected the deep respect and appreciation so many had for his service and impact. Together with Marian, his extraordinary support strengthened our Club and opened doors for countless youth across our community.

Affectionately known as “Mr. Pancake” because of his ownership of IHOP restaurants, Richard brought the same warmth and personality to everything he loved—golf, the Dodgers, traveling the world with Marian, all things Western, and time spent with his family.

One of Richard’s lasting contributions was helping bring what became the Great Futures Breakfast to our Club—an event that continues to unite people around a shared commitment to creating brighter futures for kids.
We are grateful for Richard’s many years of service, friendship, and generosity. His legacy lives on in the young people whose lives are changed because caring adults and community leaders like him chose to invest in their future.

The creativity behind the magic!

The holiday magic is starting to take shape!
The holiday season has arrived at Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, and our Festival of Trees designers are already hard at work bringing their creative visions to life! From carefully selecting decorations to perfecting every last detail, there’s so much thought and creativity that goes into each tree.

We were able to catch up with some of our talented designers in action, but they’re just a few of the many creative minds who make this tradition possible!
A huge thank-you to all our Festival of Trees designers for sharing your time, talent, and creativity with us. Your contributions are an essential part of this special event and help us create meaningful opportunities for local youth.

We’re so grateful to have you as part of the magic!
Want to see what they’re creating? Join us November 20–22 for the 24th annual Festival of Trees! Admire the beautiful holiday displays, bid on trees at the Magic of the Lights Gala, or bring the family for Community Days.

The magic is underway, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

At Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, hope looks like young people discovering what they’re capable of, one day at a time.

It looks like members building confidence as they work through homework during Power Hour, discovering new stories during reading time, and expressing their creativity through drawing.

As Panda Cares celebrates the opening of its 200th Center of Hope, we’re proud to share how our Center of Hope provides a space for Club members to learn, create, and explore new possibilities.

Thank you, Panda Cares, for helping make spaces like this possible!

🎃 Another year for the books! What a spooktacular time!

From carnival games and screams inside the maze to all the creative costumes in this year’s costume contest and fantastic performances by Elite Dance Studios, the 2026 Halloween Carnival & Haunted Jailhouse brought the Santa Clarita Valley together for a frightfully fun day!

This year’s Child’s Play Haunted Jailhouse was the result of weeks of planning, creativity and teamwork by Boys & Girls Club teens. From sharing ideas and delegating tasks to working together to bring their vision to life, they put their leadership skills into action every step of the way. The result? A maze full of spooky surprises, built by teens who made it their own!

We’re grateful for the continued partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, along with the vendors, volunteers and community partners who helped make this event possible.

Have a safe and happy Halloween! 👻

As we reflect on the people who helped shape the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, we remember Tony Newhall with deep gratitude and appreciation. Tony was a longtime Santa Clarita community leader, newspaper publisher, volunteer, and cherished friend of the Club.

Tony’s connection to the Club goes back to our earliest days. He joined the Board of the Newhall Boys’ Club in 1968 and helped create the Club’s auction in 1972 after taking on fundraising. He chaired those first auctions and continued leading the live auction for many years, helping build a tradition that became a beloved part of our Club and our community.

Tony gave back in countless ways. He was named our Director of the Year in both 1972 and 1980, served as Board President in 1980, and remained connected to the Club for decades—including returning with Reena to teach “The Hustle” to performers at our 2005 Disco Fever Auction.

So much of the Club we know today was built through the energy, creativity, and commitment of volunteers like Tony. His service to our Club was part of a much larger lifetime of giving back to Santa Clarita, including leadership with the H.M. Newhall Memorial Health Foundation, United Way, the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, and Friends of Hart Park. In 1985, he was recognized as the Santa Clarita Valley Man of the Year.

We are grateful for Tony’s role in shaping the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley and for the generations of young people who benefited from the foundation he helped build. His impact will always be part of our Club’s story.

Our thoughts are with Reena, the Newhall family, and everyone who knew and loved Tony.
