Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Friday for the 9th Annual Scouting Clays Shoot-Out!

It was a great day of clay shooting, fellowship, and support for Scouting America Orange County Council. Because of our shooters, sponsors, volunteers, and event leadership, this event continues to make a real impact for the young people and families served through Scouting across Orange County.

A special thank you to David Smith, our event chairman, and to everyone who helped make the day possible. We are grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you again next year!

Looking back at an incredible season of Outdoor Science School has us even more excited for summer at Outdoor Adventures.

From Jr. Adventure Camp and Adventure Camp, where campers can enjoy activities like zip lining, outdoor games, hands-on learning, and time with new friends, to our brand-new Cub Scout resident camp, Gold Rush, there is something for every young adventurer this summer.

We cannot wait to welcome campers back for more outdoor fun, confidence-building, and memories that last long after summer ends.

Congratulations to Alexa and Ethan Gameros on earning the rank of Eagle Scout this spring.

As twins, Alexa of Troop 568 and Ethan of Troop 380 each followed their own path to Scouting’s highest rank, while supporting one another along the way. Their achievement reflects years of leadership, service, perseverance, and dedication.

We also recognize their mom and dad for the incredible support they provided throughout the journey. Earning Eagle is never done alone, and the Gameros family has much to be proud of.

Congratulations, Alexa and Ethan!

On May 22, 2026, President Donald Trump announced that Welles Crowther, a former Scout known as “The Man in the Red Bandana,” will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Crowther was only 24 years old on September 11, 2001, when he repeatedly entered the smoke-filled stairwells of the South Tower to help guide others to safety. Survivors later remembered a young man wearing a red bandana over his face who helped lead them down. He is credited with saving as many as 18 people before losing his life when the tower collapsed.

Welles’ story is a powerful reminder of what the Scouting program is built to develop in young people: character, courage, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to helping others.

Today, his red bandana is preserved at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum as a lasting symbol of service above self.

Cub Scout families and leaders, it’s time to get summer on the calendar.

Orange County Council has two great Cub Scout camp opportunities coming up: Twilight Camp at Oso Lake and Gold Rush Cub Scout Resident Camp at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.

Whether your Cub Scout is ready for an evening camp experience close to home or a bigger resident camp adventure, these programs are built to help Scouts have fun, build confidence, complete activities, and make memories with their den, pack, and family.

Leaders, this is a great opportunity to share with your pack as families begin planning their summer.
