511 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦. 𝟮𝟬𝟭 𝗙𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗦. 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬. ❤️
Today, Head To Toe had the privilege of providing school supplies to 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟱𝟭𝟭 𝗦𝗠𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗗 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, representing 201 families, as they prepare to head back to school. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗱!
But today was about so much more than school supplies.
Throughout the year, we fundraise, apply for grants, ask for donations, plan events, and work behind the scenes so that when this day arrives, we can give our students what they need to walk into school feeling prepared and confident.
Through those efforts, we are able to provide 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁, along with quality shoes and a first-day-of-school outfit for our elementary students and hygiene essentials for our older students.
Our annual concert fundraiser provides the majority of the funding that makes this possible, but we are also incredibly grateful for the grants, organizations, businesses, and individuals who invest in our mission throughout the year - including the San Marcos Lions Club, Bluebonnet Lions San Marcos, and most recently, City of San Marcos grant funding.
𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.
It is the day we distribute supplies.
The day we connect with families.
The day our community shows up.
And the day we are reminded exactly 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.
One of the most special parts of today was once again offering 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘀 to students. Our volunteer hairstylists gave up what is probably one of the busiest Saturdays of their entire year - the weekend before school starts.
They weren’t paid. They simply showed up, gave their time and talent, and helped our students feel good about themselves before that first day of school.
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁.
We are also so thankful to Pastor Jeff and The Connection Church, San Marcos for opening their doors to us and helping recruit an amazing group of volunteers who worked alongside us throughout the day.
Their sister church in Buda also donated a bouncy house, giving our little ones something fun to enjoy while their families made their way through the event.
The Hays County Sheriff's Office joined us and spent time visiting with families.
The San Marcos Lions Club provided water bottles for our students, and the Bluebonnet Lions Club of San Marcos handed out cookies throughout the morning.
Constable David Peterson donated his time and served hot dogs - and judging by the response, they were a 𝗛𝗨𝗚𝗘 hit! 🌭 Linda Contreras and her husband generously donated the hot dog buns, and we are so appreciative!
Our volunteers were also blessed with tacos from the Palms Cafe that were donated by Alex Paint & Body, and coffee from Starbucks.
Black’s BBQ San Marcos provided chopped beef sandwiches for 40 of our volunteers, Velma Doria baked delicious cupcakes, and Breaking Bread donated chips and water for our families.
Tommy Hilfiger provided bags for our students to carry their new clothes, and the Walmart Vision Center was there providing vision tests to those who wanted them.
And there were still so many more people and organizations who stepped forward to serve.
But some of the most powerful moments today 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀.
We watched families walk through the event with our Head To Toe “Angels,” sharing their stories, talking about what their families are going through, praying together, and expressing how much this assistance meant to them.
And then there was one young man.
He came in with his family, received his school supplies, got his haircut, and went home.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.
He returned simply to help.
He spent the rest of the day sweeping hair for our volunteer stylists.
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁.
Receiving a blessing and then turning around and becoming a blessing to someone else.
There were moments today when many of us couldn’t hold back the tears. Watching our community come together with so much generosity, compassion, humility, and love was overwhelming.
To every donor, sponsor, grant partner, volunteer, stylist, business, organization, law enforcement officer, church member, board member, and person who prayed for or supported this mission:

You helped more than 511 students walk toward their first day of school knowing that 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.
And to our families - thank you for trusting us and allowing us to be a small part of your journey.
Today was a beautiful reminder that when a community comes together, 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
