Twix was given a final date at a San Jose shelter — not because he’s aggressive, not because he can’t live with other dogs, cats, or kids… but simply because time ran out.
Twix is an 8-year-old bully with the softest eyes and the most loyal heart. For seven long months, he kept his calm, loving spirit at the shelter, patiently waiting to be chosen.
Because of his steady, gentle demeanor, he was selected as an ambassador at major adoption events, including the San Jose Airport and the San Jose Super Bowl Fan Fest. He represented shelter dogs beautifully.
He’s a Tails & Trails favorite, happily walking 3–4 easy miles on a loose leash. Strollers, bikes, trucks, wildlife — nothing fazes him. He’s composed, content, and simply loves being by your side. He’s also been wonderful for baths and grooming.
Twix has manageable medical needs: skin allergies (already improving on medication and a hydrolyzed diet), hip dysplasia with arthritis, and a mild heart murmur to monitor. With supervision and a little dog-proofing, he thrives.
This weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting Twix with a potential foster family. The first meeting with their dog, Boggles, was rocky — but they didn’t give up. A second introduction in Boggles’ backyard changed everything.
Since then, Twix has shown what a happy little boy he truly is. He’s incredibly sweet with the children, completely non-reactive to Boggles’ occasional snaps, walks like a dream on leash, and even met a cat — responding gently and respectfully.
He’s already been seen by our vet, and we’ll be consulting an orthopedic surgeon soon. His skin is improving beautifully, and we have no doubt the rest will heal with a soft bed, consistency, and lots of kisses.
From a final date… to a fresh start.
Stay tuned for more on sweet Twix as we continue to learn about this very good boy. ❤️🐾
