HomeFirst

HomeFirst 45 years of hope, housing, and HomeFirst. We offer a full spectrum of evidence-based services to support people who are unhoused or housing insecure.

The HomeFirst Story
In 1980, a group of service providers and advocates saw a gap in homeless services. With eight families in crisis and without a place to go, these advocates set out to help, ultimately creating an agency that would meet the needs of unhoused families in Santa Clara County. Since then, HomeFirst has expanded significantly. During FY24 (ending June 30, 2024), we impacted over 10,

000 individuals including youth, seniors, and veterans, across two counties (Santa Clara and Sonoma). Approximately 6,000 people received direct supportive services from HomeFirst and another 4,500+ benefited from our systems leadership.

HomeFirst was proud to join thousands of community members, advocates, allies, and organizations at Silicon Valley Pride this weekend. 🌈

Pride is a reminder that everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported — and that building a stronger community starts with ensuring everyone has a place to call home.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, marched alongside us, and helped make this year’s celebration so special.

Sometimes, it's the little things.

Recently, a group of volunteers visited one of our interim housing sites to provide free haircuts for participants. What may seem like a simple service created moments of connection, self-care, and confidence throughout the day.

At HomeFirst, we know that support comes in many forms. Whether it's a haircut, a workshop, a meal, a class, or another unique skill, community members have the power to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

Do you have a special talent, skill, or service you'd like to share? We're always looking for community partners and volunteers who want to help create moments of care, dignity, and connection for our participants.

Thank you to everyone who shares their time and talents with our community. 💙

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we’re celebrating some of the furry friends who bring a little extra joy to our sites and outreach efforts. 🐶❤️

For many people experiencing homelessness, a pet is more than a companion. They can be a source of comfort, connection, routine, and unconditional love — especially during times of uncertainty.

That’s why supporting people also means recognizing the relationships that matter most to them, even the ones with fur. Because when someone is working toward stability, their pet is often an important part of that journey, too.

Swipe through to meet a few of our furry friends! 🐕🐾

CBS News Bay Area recently highlighted the story of Ray Medina, a resident at a HomeFirst-operated interim housing site in San José.

After losing his job and experiencing homelessness, Ray turned to interim housing for stability. Today, he's focused on finding employment and taking the next steps toward permanent housing.

HomeFirst Chief Program Officer Bea Ramos explains why interim housing is such an important part of the homelessness response system. When people have a safe place to stay, they can focus less on day-to-day survival and more on the goals that help them move forward — finding work, addressing personal needs, and securing long-term housing.

At HomeFirst, we see this every day. Interim housing creates the stability people need to focus on their future, and Ray's story is a powerful example of that impact.

Thank you to CBS News Bay Area for helping shine a light on the importance of interim housing in our community.
