The HomeFirst Story
In 1980, a group of service providers and advocates saw a gap in homeless services. With eight families in crisis and without a place to go, these advocates set out to help, ultimately creating an agency that would meet the needs of unhoused families in Santa Clara County. Since then, HomeFirst has expanded significantly. During FY24 (ending June 30, 2024), we impacted over 10,000 individuals including youth, seniors, and veterans, across two counties (Santa Clara and Sonoma). Approximately 6,000 people received direct supportive services from HomeFirst and another 4,500+ benefited from our systems leadership.

35,101 essential items collected. $13,984 in cash donations. And so many reasons to be grateful. 💙

The 13th annual Pad Party brought an incredible response from our community, with donations filling the shelves of HomeFirst’s Donation Center to help meet essential needs throughout the year.
Here's what our community made possible:

🩵 22,429 pads
🩵 8,302 tampons
🩵 3,819 incontinence products
🩵 551 pairs of underwear
🩵 $13,984 in cash donations

These items will be distributed through HomeFirst’s outreach services, emergency shelters, and interim housing communities, as well as shared with local agencies and schools. Cash donations will help replenish supplies as they run low.

Thank you to everyone who donated, helped spread the word, and supported this year's Pad Party. For 13 years, this community has shown up to help ensure women and teens experiencing homelessness have access to essential items that support health, comfort, and dignity.

That's the impact of coming together around a need that matters.

Addressing homelessness takes all of us working together. 💙

Earlier this week, we welcomed Senator Dave Cortese and San José Housing Director Erik Louís Soliván to Rue Ferrari, HomeFirst’s emergency housing community in Santa Clara County. Led by our VP of Emergency Services Gloria Chukwueke, Program Manager Dana Burnette, and CEO René Ramirez, and offered a closer look at the services and spaces that support residents every day.

Since its expansion last year, Rue Ferrari has been able to serve up to 256 people, offering a safe place to stay alongside essential facilities and support.

The visit also opened the door to meaningful conversations about the history of homelessness in California and the continued collaboration needed to address it.

We’re grateful for opportunities to share this work and strengthen the partnerships that help move us toward a community where everyone has a home.

Yesterday, KeyPoint Credit Union volunteers showed up across HomeFirst, building kits, serving meals, painting, planting, gardening, and making our spaces more welcoming for the people and pets who spend time there.

And their generosity went beyond a day of service. KeyPoint also donated $25,000 to support HomeFirst’s mission

From the hands-on projects to the moments of connection (and one very excited pup 🐶), the day was a reminder of what can happen when people come together for their community.

🏠 Did you know that HomeFirst provides services and housing in Sonoma County?

At Labath Landing, 60 sleeping cabins, including 12 ADA-accessible cabins, provide a safe place to stay while people work toward permanent housing.

Because interim housing is about more than a roof overhead. It’s about having a place to focus on what comes next, access supportive services, connect with resources, and take steps toward greater stability.

Labath Landing is one way HomeFirst supports people on their journey home in Sonoma County. 💙

As winter approaches, our team works to ensure community members have access to a safe place to stay, meals, supportive services, and connections to housing resources. We're looking for compassionate, dedicated individuals to help make that possible.

There isn’t one single solution to homelessness.

It’s often a series of moments, resources, opportunities, and supports that help someone move from crisis toward stability.

A meal. A safe place to sleep. Employment support. Housing navigation. Prevention assistance. Each one can make a difference, and each one can help move someone closer to home.

Because every person’s journey is unique, we’re committed to meeting people where they are and providing the support they need every step toward home.

A strong community is one where people can find the support they need, when they need it.

At our recent Community Resource Fair, program participants connected with community partners offering support across health care, mental health and recovery, employment and workforce development, education, legal services, veteran resources, immigration and citizenship, harm reduction, and youth and family support.

Bringing these resources together in one place created opportunities for conversations, questions, and connections that can help people move toward greater stability.

And there was a little fun along the way, too with a raffle! 🎉 🚲

The Virtual Turkey Trot gives you the flexibility to participate anytime from November 26 through December 6, from wherever works best for you. Run, walk, jog, or stroll your way through your own Turkey Trot, whether that means hitting the neighborhood streets, finding a favorite trail, or getting the whole family moving together.
